  1. Slam me if you want but this codec looks great imo.
I would use it to capture regularly for it's small file
size and exellent quality and res(640x480).I think it's
ASF isn't it?Anyway, the only problem is that I get about
40% frame loss on a Thunderbird 900 oc to 1400.If anyone
knows a way to tweak this in the registry so it would use
more proc power I'd love to know.Maybe it's just too much
work and I may have to get at least a 1.33 GHz Athlon for
no frame loss. Can anyone say they can use this codec with
no frame loss? What speed?Anyone care?I have a TV Wonder PCI
    on a K7T Turbo-R.My raid is fast enough,that isn't the problem.I'm using WinME.Anybody else like this codec?

  2. Ah.. now I understand (only just seen this post). ASF was never really designed to be used in realtime capturing. Why don't you capture straight to DivX?? It's nearly the same thing, abeit a few hacks here and there. I get no frame drops that way (Athlon 850@933. ABit KT7A, WinXP, AIW-128 16mb). At least that can be edited afterwards (unless you got Vdub 1.3c).

  3. Cofferscup, this is the only codec I can find that I can still capture in 640x480..I don't know how to use Virtual
Dub that good but even if I could capture uncompressed at
640x480 I wouldn't really want to cause the file is just
too huge.Actually mpeg2 looks about as good as that at
1500 bitrate at 640x240.I tried to use the Windows media
encoder to convert to the (local use)codec(I think now it's
WM8 right?Anyway it will convert a mpeg1 file but the Microsoft media help site says I need some 3rd party WDM
mpeg2 plugin to convert mpeg2 files with the WM encoder.
Do you know where I get this deal? Can I use Virtual Dub
to convert this nice mpeg2 file to a 640x480 Divx file? With
the size I'd end up with I figure I could fit about an hour
on 1 cd,maybe a little more, but the quality is outstanding
though.I wouldn't mind using 2 cds for 1 movie if the quality is so much better.Forgive me,there's so much for
    me to learn yet.

  4. You can take an MPEG-2 file and convert it to anything you want. Just load up DVD2AVI and create a project file (DVD2AVI will handle any MPEG-2 stream) - then you can convert the project file to a 'fake avi' with VFAPI and then load it into VirtualDub.

    http://168.144.91.167/nickyguides/DVD2AVI.htm

the above guide will give you an idea - just skip the part where it says load the VOB files and load your MPEG-2 file .. it even shows you how to use the VFAPI and put it in VirtualDub

    hope that helps
