  1. I have a bunch of OGM files that I want to burn to DVD to use on my set-top DVD player. Is there an easy way of doing the conversion? ffmpegX doesn't support OGM, neither does MPEG Streamclip. I've tried mencoder but it keeps dumping out with an error as soon as I hit "start conversion".

I've downloaded ogmtools, but it seems positively user-unfriendly... I've never really been comfortable with command-line stuff unless what I have to type is clearly spelled out for me, and I'm not convinced it'll do what I want it to do anyway.

  2. The procedure that works:

    Processing OGM files:

    Take 1 OGM file:

    1) Demux using D-Vision 3 Tools
    2) Convert audio via Audacity/Amadeus II from OGG to mp3
    3) Remultiplex using D-Vision 3
    4) Burn

    Look here:

    http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/ogmtools/

I use this first and then QuickTime Pro and ffmpegX usually take care of the rest

  5. Hi Rumplestiltskin,

As I said in my original post, I've already obtained ogmtools. Unfortunately I don't like command-line stuff, unless it tells me *exactly* what to type to get the desired result, and the README for ogmdemux doesn't. Could you tell me what to type to demux an OGM into something that ffmpegX will be able to cope with? And what do you need QuickTime Pro for?

Rorschach - thanks for that. I'll investigate D-Vision 3 Tools.

ogmdemux will, as the name implies, demux the file into separate audio and video streams. Double-click the ogmdemux file and it will launch Terminal and display the available syntax help. Just copy the command line, paste it into a new terminal window, then delete the [options] text. Then simply drag the OGM file into the Terminal window right to the place you deleted the [options]. Hit Return and the demuxing takes place.

Look at the resulting files and you should be able to "save as" from QT Pro (or some other app that does conversion). Once you have a video stream and audio stream that ffmpegX will understand, go for it. However, using QT Pro enables you to combine the two streams (one or both converted into something QT Player will play) using copy and "paste scaled", then doing a "save as..." as a reference movie. MPEG Streamclip can then work with it. ffmpegX can't work with ref movies (yet).

Hope this helps. If it's too geeky for you, sorry.

  8. Thanks rumplestiltskin! You explained it well enough for a command-line-phobic like me to make it work!
