how to make ac3 file?

hey.... i've searched for guides, and i've come up short.. so plz help me out if you can...

i want to try and author an ac3 file, but i've never done this before.... what program should i use? also.... is it worth encoding in ac3 if i only have one audio track? or should it be more than 1? thanks!

I use ffmpeggui. Easy.

I think this program will do what you want cause if i am correct, it can only encode 2 channels.
