Can anyone tell me what their second pick of codec would be if AAC/MPEG wasn't available to them? Every website mentions AAC as your go to audio codec in Quicktime 6, but no one ever talks about ones like U-Law, A-Law, Qualcom, etc. Which are good? By good I mean a decent balance between quality and filesize.

Nothing quicktime is capable of comes close to aac. Guess now that there is a Xiph QT plugin it might be possible to use vorbis, speex or flac in a mov container. mp3 might also be possible, although QT can't playback mp3 in mp4, so I doubt mov would work.
