  1. Hi, folks,

I wonder if you could help me out here, lately I noticed I have way too many VCDs piling up on my shelves and Iīve decided to get rid of them.

iīd like to convert some of these VCDs to AVI files and store them in my computerīs hardrive.

Some of these VCDs are mostly garbage which I want to trim down, maybe salvaging a 2 minute sequence here and there with the help of Virtualdub..

is there any program that allows me to do this?

    Thanks.

It's basically a 2 step process. You need to extract the MPEG1 stream from the .DAT format VCD uses, then you need to transcode that into AVI, picking your codec and such. If these are Asian VCD's, you have to play with sound channels and such.

VCDGear to extract the MPEG from the DAT file(s). Then load up in virtualdub and edit away, with your final step being configuring virtualdub to output using your codecs of choice.
    If in doubt, Google it.
