    Hi everyone:

I am pretty much confused over what is "widescreen".

According to the glossary in our forum:

    "Widescreen
A video image wider than the standard 1.33 (4:3) aspect ratio. When referring to DVD or HDTV, widescreen usually indicates a 1.78 (16:9) aspect ratio."

A Chinese movie I bought indicates "Anamorphic Widescreen 1.33:1". When I played it, the whole screen of my television monitor was filled, instead of the regular black bands on top and bottom of the screen. This is a reputable studio made DVD, not a bootlegged/pirated copy.

Would someone please help me understand this "widescreen" stuff?

    Thanks

Several DVD releases have wrong information. 1.33:1 is fullscreen.

    Thank you, sir.

Now I can see why even the full television monitor screen was filled, unlike other pan-and-scan & fit for TV movies, this particular Chinese movie did not seem to miss anything.
