Ive done it all.... Cant get rid of it. Ive dont the uninstall of 5, then install of 6. Removed 6. Install 6. Remove 6. Reboot. Install 6. You name it...

6.1.1 is installed, but somehow, I think the 5.0.3b DLL is still hanging out?!?!
I did a file search for divx*.* and didnt find divx.dll in windows/system32 after UNinstalling BOTH. Its there upon the reinstall.

Im using avi.NET with Divx 6.1.1 now. However, gspot still indicates the AVI was encoded with 5.0.3b!

    Anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    From what Im seeing, yes...

Also, the bitrate feature of avi.NET doesnt appear to be working as expected. I can enter 1.5mbs, and the resulting video is always 4.5mbs, it is stated that 6.0.3 Divx version or newer is needed for avi.NET to function, however since upgrading I cannot see where avi.NET is functioning as expected, possibly due to the wrong Divx CODEC being detected.

Yes, I installed and registered (purchased) 6.1.1, primarily because I wanted to use avi.NET to its full feature advantage. Otherwise, I was happy with 5.0.3 and AGK. (Outputting for viewing on Philips 642).

Im not wanting to FDISK just to fix this, though Im pretty sure that would work.

    PLEASE HELP!

  5. in options of gspot,in settings, can you enable Expert Mode: enable codec management.
then go to sytem, list codecs and other filters.
all the codecs should appear, then just right click on them and unregister or register them.-that worked for me when i had a few that were problematic, dont know about now,as my gspot was older, than yours---ooeerr!!!

Using 'Effective File Search' software, I cannot seam to find any file in c:\programs or c:\windows that has the text string 503b or 5.0.3 in a file that is associated with Divx.

Is there another method to determine what encoder was used to create an AVI, to verify what gspot is reporting?

    Thanks,
    Andrew

Is it possible that it's just a registry value that's gone stray ?

Try regedit and search for "Divx503b1828p".
    If in doubt, Google it.

  9. The fourcc code for Divx6 encoded files is still DX50 since it is fully compatible with Divx5.

So, I may be chasing a ghost here. Doah. I was just looking on the forums at divx.com and there was one post suggesting that same thing.

But, my question is, why is gspot showing "Divx503b1828p" for the encoder?? I can see the 4cc being d5, but shouldnt it show that Divx611 was used to encode??

I have gone over the system several times, with about 5 different filter and codec programs, and everything shows Divx 6.1.1 installed, and no reference to Divx 5.

So, I guess I just wasted a lot of time, maybe?

Anyway, that does settle my nerves a bit, I was concerned that my settop 642 would need a new ROM flash to support 6, but doesnt appear that way. Will burn a file and check it out anyway.

    Thanks for all the help...

BTW, reg shows nothing for 'Divx503b1828p" or 'Divx503b' or '503b'.

Guess the question would have to go to the author of gspot now...

  13. Gspot shows Divx503b... on my system with Divx6 installed too. I believe that is the actual version number the codec stamps the file with.
