  1. I am totally new to this but wish to ask:- I have downloaded two files(movies) from winmx and they are in the MPEG format(stored on hard drive as mpg and mpe file extensions. I wish to burn these on a CD-R using my CD writer installed on my computer so I can play on my Panasonic DVD player. What are the steps necessary to do this?. Do I have to convert these files and if so what do I use to do that? Do I have to use TMP software- I just need a quick tutorial on the procedures and I thank you for your detailed response!

  2. Easy. First find out if it's a compliant VCD. It's already in .mpg format, good. Right click on the file, select properties, video tab. If the resolution is 352x240, you're good to go. Check the framerate as well 29.97 NTSC, 25 PAL, 23.976 NTSCFilm and if using Nero, select the corresponding type in the Video CD options.

  4. Click on the "what is" section to your left. Here you can find the correct specs for a compliant VCD (MPEG1 encoded 352x240, video=1150kbit/s audio=224kbit/s). You need to check to see if your d/loaded MPEG matches. There are a lot of ways to do this but I sugguest you go to http://www.doom9.org and d/load VCDEasy, then use it's analyize MPEG feature.

Note that if you have a MPEG1 encoded file the audio/video bitrates can be at anything and it should still play (xVCD). If the resolution is not 352x240, but is ???x240 or ???x480, you should be ok. In theory if the resolution is divisible by 16 you 'should' be ok... but might have to re-encode to a compliant VCD spec.
