I am having some problems after authoring DVDs with GUI for DVD author:-
    1) while authoring a DVD with 2 or 3 titles, I get following message:-
ERROR: [???] Need to split output but there appears to be no %d in the filename pattern f:\DVD Projects\Temp\VTS_04_1.mpg
    attrib -r "f:\DVD Projects\Temp\VTS_04_1_req.mpv"

    2) I have authored a DVD with subtitles.
On PC in PowerDVD the subs are visible, but not visible while playing on stand alone DVD player. I have changing TV display with 16:9 wide screen, 4:3 letterboxed etc. But to no avail.

guessing for #2, are the subs std colors & sizes? Do you have the option to turn them on or off on the stand-alone? If not, could be a matter of using Ifoedit to turn them on.

Yes, my standalone player supports turning the subs on and off. I have tried that. The subs are standard colors and sizes as per my knowledge. Still will you please revise the standards for me? or where can I refer to for subs standards?

  4. What kind of subtitles you load in GFD? Text based or image based?

in ifo .sup format usually, or some times .srt files.

  6. Q1: Sometimes mplex has problems with multiplexing. I don't know the reason yet. Usually it helps if you multiplex the video and audio streams with imago and use the 'ready' mpg files in GFD.
Q2: I have no idea. If it works with soft players, there could be a compatibility problem with spumux. But as spumux is also used to create the menus (and these appear to be ok?!), I really don't understand why the subs are not accessible on your SA player. A possible workaround would be to use ifoedit or (even better!) muxman to 'preauthor' the vob files. Afterwards, combine the vobs, rename to mpg and use use this in GFD. You can still set colors, language and even create subtitle menus.

    Thanks borax and mikiem.
    1) I extracted the subs with subrip and using subtitle creator applied the letterbox and widescreen formats to them and saved them separately as LB version and Widescreen versions.
    2) Then as borax suggested I preauthored the dvd with muxman and combined the VOBs to a single mpg file using CMD.
    3) Then in GFD I used this mpg file and the two versions of subs and created the DVD with title menu etc.

This somehow worked and the DVD plays fine on my standalone Player as well as in PowerDVD on my PC.

I have a question to borax-
in GFD though the DVD creation was successful, I got the following warning in the log-

"Audio pts for channel 32 moves backwards; please remultiplex input."

    what does this mean.

  8. Most times it means that the audio stream has a wrong sampling rate (i.e. 44.1 kHz). But in this case, I presume that dvdauthor has some difficulties with the muxed stream. Often this concerns inconsistencies between PTS and SCR (which are allowed, even if dvdauthor has difficulties in dealing with them). But as the DVD plays fine, I wouldn't be very anxious about this warning.
