Does anyone know of any U.S. retailers (with stores in Minnesota) that sell multisystem TVs? I'd prefer not to buy online or mail order (expensive shipping, plus I'd like to see it in person and/or have the option to return), so an actual brick-and-morter store would be great.

    Hi Martoon,

I think you are out of luck in Minnesota.

The only place I know where you can buy multisystem VCRs, DVD players ant TVs is Brooklyn and those Russian electronics shops on Brighton Beach. May be New Jersey (which I am not sure). I am also not sure about West coast, like LA or San Fransisco.

I solved this problem this way: I just bought Philips 642 DVD player, that can play NTSC and PAL, and can convert PAL to NTSC on the fly, so you can view PAL DVDs on your NTSC TV.

And it just happened that two days ago my friend gave me several DVDs that he bought in Russia. Two DVDs played without any problem on my TV, the third one told me "Wrong Region". So, I came here, videohelp.com, found and applied region free hack for Phillips 642. And DVD plays great.

Actually, I have a DVP642 (which I love, because it plays just about any video file I put on a CD or DVD), but the multisystem TV is for game consoles (PS2, mostly). My PS2 has a mod chip so it will run PAL format games in NTSC, but they run 20% faster (makes most games virtually unplayable), and crops the image vertically.

I'm still hoping someone knows of a local retailer with multisystem TVs (I just want a basic 19 or 21 inch).

You would be out of luck in almost any city not named New York or maybe Los Angeles. If you have a Fry's in Minneapolis, you can try them. No guarantees, but I did once see on the Fry's web site that they sold a VERY LIMITED number of multistandard TVs. Limited as in there may only be 1 model, if any, that they sell.
