it depends when you want to cut them, really
you can simply make cuts in virtualdub if you dont mind leaving commercials in the mpeg untill the end

That is a good reason. It would be AC-3 audio, not DTS.
I think normal procedure would be to demux the video and audio streams that you need and then decode the AC-3 to 6 audio tracks for editing. Once the video is resized and the the audio/video tracks are edited, then you can encode back to AC-3 and then XviD.
Others may know of tools for directly editing the AC-3 stream.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

elister,
1) Open your edited MPEG2 file with VirtuaDubMpeg2.
2) Check File Information for Audio Skew and enter that value in Audio/Interleaving/Delay audio.
3) Set audio for Direct stream copy.
4) Choose the Xvid codec under video compression and configure it.
5) Save as AVI.
You should have no audio problems.
I like to use the DivX :) 3.11 codec at about 2Mbs as it encodes faster with similar results.
Hope this helps,

@ lacy
I'm curious (but confused) .. were you saying that you might also
sometimes capture from the s-video OUT during certain situations,
vs. the ultimate .TS (or .TP) method ??
Unfortunately, I have an external hdtv receiver that doesn't seem
to allow for this. Only has the following OUTPUT options:
USDTV Hisense branded:
** RCA (or composite)
** S-Video
** Y Pb Pr (green/blue/red)
Mind you.., I'm not nocking those methods available to me, but I do
wish I had more options
Thanks,

It wasn't me who said I'd use the s-video connection.
As yet I don't have an external HDTV tuner for my Sony 51 inch yet.
I do have my outside antenna mounted up on my chimney.
I'm trying to decide what external HDTV tuner to get that will work decently ... the Samsung seems good. -
Ok, then. My mistake.
fwiw, the reason why I ended up picking up the USDTV model, was
because even though the box was priced at $169 (and I made the
decision to get it - after speaking with the floor person - and
because of the fact the the whole unit was in its original and
prestine seran-wrapping) ..
..when I finaly made my way to the register, the nice young girl
said, "oh, price went down some more on this.." and she said.. down
to $149 now. So I got it with an even bigger smile
But, I'm in need of a better antenna for this, to replace my indoor
one. (I thought about the DB2 or DB4, but I'm not sure yet - but
whatever I *DO* get, will still be used for inside my apt)

Well the woman I married ... Oct 15 2005 ... she has a house ... I was living in an apartment.
I'm trying to decide ... which model to get ... the Samsung 341 ... seems good.
The antenna I mounted is a 4 I believe ... [I'm at work right now]
I made sure I weather proofed it really well ... before mounting it up on my roof. .... Black electrical tape everywhere where the hot California sun can't destroy the insulating material.
I've mounted antennas before and our summers are hard on outside antennas and ... thin plastic. -
Here is a complete list of current models and discontinued models.
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=179095
The Samsung SIR-T351 is on the discontinued list.
The technology is improving rapidly for these new OTA set top tuners for both near and distant tuning. I would recommend you stay with current models and read the reviews before you buy. Each has its own quirks and features. Also, the new models keep getting cheaper as well as better.
Avoid old models on ebay.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

( sorry if i'm OT'ing over here.. )
I'm not that crazy about features (which is why I settled for
the USDTV) but like I said earlier - I wish it had other features,
ISMW.. i.e., an export to .TS would be ideal - but it does not,
..TMK, receiver's don't offer this. Anyways.
After hours of searching around for a new Antenna - nobody seems
to carry them (stores, for instance) anywheres/mores.. except
Radio Shack. Thank GOD for them. The last of the Moheegans.
(I didn't want to order just any online)
I picked up the VU-75XR model for $39 bucks, and is
Roof or Attic, mountable.
** to be honest.. I'm not expecting any better reception than my
current indoor amplified antenna. Its an experimental antenna for
the time being

Happens in Win2k as well as XP, on both computers that I have. Both are Abit-NF7 class boards, but not identical. I am using the onboard AC3 sound, which has 6 channel audio (nVidia Sound Storm).
I have even gone so far as to created a fresh installed image of Win2k and go back and forth (re-imaging) trying different AC3 codecs. Nothing appears to work. Now is it the built in audio, do I need to buy an Audigy2 card? -
Ahhh forget it, im just gonna sell this thing and buy an ATI HD Wonder.
Again, for the last time, thanks for all your help. -
Hi elister,
I'm still not sure how you are recieving your hdtv source, ie.. via an
analog capture card route, or by the cards .TS (which is an MPEG-2 wrapped
inside some container, and may have/share other MPEG's / Transports, whatever)
thus, you're using a software app that obtains the .TS transport stream.
From here, you would extract the MPEG portion (the channel) using another
external software tool to do this
But, lets assume you are working with an .TS setup..
All that you have to do is demux the *separate* MPEG (from the .TS source)
into an *.m2v and *.mp2 (or whatever the audio is) and once you have your
two sources:
** Video
** Audio
you should be good to go further, from here.
Thus, assuming you have an MPEG-2 extract out of the .TS transport or
continer, your next step would be to bring that inside your favorite
MPEG app to de-MUX the it into TWO separate pieces (video/audio)
Because I am familiar.. I like to use TMPGenc for the de-muxing around part.
** Open TMPGenc
** File\MPEG tools..\
** from TAB, choose either: simple demuliplex or De-Multiplex
** then, open your .TS / .MPG / .VOB file and let it *pull* out the A/V
That's it.
* note - If you are having trouble with your audio, you could try and
bring it inside HeadAC3 and convert to antoher format, ie.. .WAV and
see if that gives you audio.

No I am working with .TS files and the whole point of me buying the MyHD card was so that I could capture the AC3 audio and keep it intact. Create DTS DVDs or XViD files of sporting events.

[quote="elister"]Ahhh forget it, im just gonna sell this thing and buy an ATI HD Wonder.
Please post a small clip of your edited material (stuff you ran through VideoRedo) at http://Rapidshare.de . More than 10MB and Less than 50MB would be fine.
Also, if you can, record 5 seconds of anything and post it also to Rapidshare.
Don't modify or edit the file.
We're going to figure out what's up. -
Nevermind. I basically had to tear my PC apart, shuffle the drives around. For some reason I couldnt install Win2k on my master drive. Now that I have a clean install setup and have installed only the needed programs. Now that I have understood the controls of HDTV2Mpeg2, I think im good to go.
I have to use AVI.net because AutoGK caused audio sync problems and cannot crop out videos (theres some digital information that flickers at the top of the feed). My goal has been achieved, I am now able to create XViD videos with the DTS audio intact. Now all I have to do is wait for the NFL season to start up.
I am more than greatful for everyones help and apologise if I acted like a jerk through out this thread. I believe my OS was bloated down with too many codecs which required a full on reformat and re-install to fix the problem. -
UPDATE ... Sat June 10, 2006.pm
I know its been a while since this topic went on further, but..
I just wanted to update on this topic, because of the member(s) who were
searching (at the time) for a H.Receiver as an alternative, etc.
HDTV Receivers: Samsung, SIR-T451 vs. Pro Brand*, HD3150Plus
Ever since my last post here, I had thoughts about a possible 2nd alternative
for a different brand H.Receiver unit. In short, I ended up going with the
Pro Brand*, HD3150Plus, and I'm *VERY* glad I did
I might write a review on the units I have, currently, and also open a topic
on "Antenna" usage/tips or something. But, for now, I will say this..
I very much prefer the Hisense, (DB-2010) video output. And on
the Pro Brand, HD3150Plus has *other* plus features, (such as a
digital meter strength readout) but both I use concurrently, and am still under
debate as to their features, etc.
* Pro Brand International, Inc. (sub-name, DigitalStream)
* Hisense, USDigital USDtv DB-2010
