    Hi,

I tried to use TMPGEnc Plus to convert rmvb/rm to mpeg. I installed real alternative. However I found that TMPGEnc Plus only showed blank rm/rmvb video but had audio fine. When I opened rmvb or rm file with WMP 10, it only had audio as well. The video was always black. I played the same files by media player classic, they worked perfectly. I used filemon and confirmed that WMP did call the right RealMediaSplitter. I got no clue why WMP didn't show video but just audio for rm/rmvb file.

    Any help is appreciated!

If WMP didn't work, then RealAlternative wasn't installed properly. You have to use GraphEdit to see how Windows came up with the filters that displayed RM/RMVB, if you are interesting in finding out WHY WMP didn't work.

Wow! GraphEdit helps a lot. Now I found the video stream from real media splitter goes to wrong encoder. I am able to use GraphEdit to insert the correct filter and was able play it within GraphEdit. But now my question is how I can save this connection and let WMP to play it?

This gets tricky then. Basically you have the encoder/decoder install erroneously. The way to fix it is go in and adjust the "merit" of the filters with CodecSniper or DXMan or similar tool, but it can completely mess up your system if you do it wrong (well, not COMPLETELY, just the playback stuff).

Maybe the mods have a better idea on how to fix this.

Thanks for the help. I changed the merit and that fixed the problem.
