Encode each AVI separately to DVD specs mpg
Author with TMPGenc DVD Author (all mpgs to the same title)

  3. You can used MS movie maker to join avi togather and change to mpeg all at the same time. The chapter point in MS movie maker is between avi clip, I not sure they will be preserve in DVD, because I do not think avi ( mostly 320x240 ) look good on TV.

Can you post your viewing result and the size/type TV you used ?

? Neither AVI nor mpg (in fact, hardly any file format at all!) has chapter points - only DVD, VCD and SVCD do (disc formats).

If you have to join the AVIs, you can use VirtualDub: Load first AVI, then add the rest with Append video segment. But all AVIs must share the same specs with respect to audio/video type, resolution, bitrates & c. This is not a VirtualDub quirk - it's the way it works.
But, since your goal is to create a video-DVD, again: There's no need to join the avis. Encode each AVI to dvd mpg specs, and author them together.

    Obviously !

I'm thinking of Windows Movie maker though - maybe not the same product ?
    If in doubt, Google it.
