Morpheus - showing error messages...how do I resolve?

Hello all you Morpheus users!
My version is 1.3.3

I am having trouble with this error message that keeps popping up
every so often (aprox 10min or less, give or take a few)



And, when I leave my pc to do other things, if this message pops up, and
I don't catch it, somehow, my connection gets lost, and I have to re
connect to my internet again. But, it has something to do with not
being able to connect to this server, every time. I'd like to know how
to avoid this nonsense...help!

Alrighteee then!! Morpheus, thats my subject...
Can't entirely help as I only get this message very rarely - probably when Aol's lines are too congested....Is this causing you to lose any data that you have downloaded?? Do you have the patch for Morpheus (called MorpheusX) absolutely brilliant! At the very least this patch will ensure that your connection recognises that it is constantly active (it refreshes your download sources every 5 minutes)and means you can go to bed get up in the morning and have downloaded a ton of stuff even on 56k....
If none of this is relevant/helpful I will quietly retreat into my hole.
p.s. weren't you the guy that was looking into the download speeds phenomenon for me the other day??

Just out of curiosity, what ISP are you using?

I've been having a lot of problems with @Home as it 'transitions' to Comcast - their DNS servers are screwed up, some sites work and others don't.

jjamez, my ISP is a v.90 56k connect, if that helps you any.

bilbogod, I'm lazy, and didn't do a search of prev. posts on your
behalf (and don't wanna tie up this forums bandwidth), but I would
guess, YES.

I've ben able to download at 2k, 4k , 5k, 6k, 7k, 8k, 9k, 11k, ect.
but it just varies a lot, mostly between 4k and 6k. Not so bad.
I haven't D/L'd any whole movies though. I'm really not interested
in this, even if I had DLS. But, you never know late on. . .

All i want is it view samples of these clips, ie, AVI, DivX, MPG, MOV
to see:
* what the quality is like when viewed
* to see what kind of encoding can be done (to help other here better, maybe)
* and, if any are VCD or SVCD or xSVCD, etc., to compare against my
xSVCD enocdes.

I've had problems trying to find or narrow down my VIDEO searching to D/L
these various clips. I'm not too concirned with the D/L speed, so don't comment
like, ie, why? Anyways... I'd like to D/L small clips like 5mb, 10mb, i'd even
do 50mb or more if I could get the "disconnect" issues fixed.

I also want to share this experience I had today. I had dlb-clicked on a clip
that didn't have a [+] next to it (was just a single clip) and when I went into
the "Traffic" only one file was D/L'ng, but about 5 minutes later, 2, 3, 5
more files opened up and starting D/L'ng as well, but was the same clip, and
then finally went back to the first, and finised D/L'ng, but only ONC clip showed
up in my "My Shared Folder". The clip was: "Monsters Inc.mpg" @ 7,579kb in
size. ...???

Also, can i stop the D/L and just try and see if I can view what I have. ie, I Don't
want to view/ D/L a whole 641MB file, just want to see what the content is, cause
sometimes, the clip doesn't really say what movie really is. I'd like to cancel
and then just use what I have.

bilbogod, where can I get this "path" yor mentioned, and what's the installation
process for it? Also, ...

O.k. first off, it's not uncommon to find that your file is downloading off multiple users even if it intially appears to only have 1 owner (i.e no + sign). The server that you connect to only has approx 550,000 users max at any one time. There are actually far more people than this using the facility, they are just put on a different server..
If your file is say 100Mb total, e.g a short film, and you are downloading off 5 different people, then it may be off person 1 that you are downloading the first 1-8 mins of the file, off person two the 22nd - 29th minute, person three (etc etc).
To view your file prematurely, refer to the DAT file in your share folder and try to open it with Virtual Dub (for AVI's etc) or just use the "theatre facility" in Morpheus if it is an Mpeg. Another useful media player is "The Playa" which will support the AVI Dat files... Finally there is another tool called Divfix which rebuilds the index of AVI Dat files so that they can be played normally...
I'll e-mail you the enhancement for Morpheus if you like...It's very useful...Haven't checked yet to see if your e-mail address is available on this site. If it isn't then p.m. me with it and I'll send it to you.
My version is 1.3.3 but I think they are releasing another version very soon.

Ok, I'd like to run an experiment. Instead of using an e-mail to transfer,
and being that we are BOTH using Morpheus, why don't you Morph it over
to me. How, like this...

* name the file something easy for me to search on, ie, "vhelp-patch"
or "bilbogod-patch" if that makes you happy

What i'll do is a quick search for "vhelp*.*" or "bilbogod*.*" and hopefully, I'll find the
file and D/L it.

I don't believe this... Me messing around with Morpheus, saw me somehow disconnect and lose a 270Mb dat file of the movie Blow
Luckily I know how to back this up but I will still have lost approx 70 megs or so

please leave the path file in your shared folder, till I've figured out
how to D/L id.

I guess you haven't figured how to D/L other peoples file if they have

bilbogod, maybe you should rename the file (without spaces) to something
more easier, ie, "vhelppatch", but NOT "patch" all by itself. I've seen
so many of them.

How am I suppose to find people if this kind of crap happens - this is really

You shouldn't get cut off Morpheus... its quite rare... must be your isp.

for example, see if you can D/L this file, it's an xSVCD of a commercial and
is 4.7mb in size, but you don't have to D/L the whole thing - just to see if
it works. But if you want, go ahead and D/L all of it, and view it.

the name of the file is: "vhelp-12-01-01-tvw-01-06-1800coll.mpg"
without the "" of course.

Hmmm cant find that file. Go into Tools, then options and then traffic and see if you've currently got sharing enabled (I know you probably have)...

if you mean the "[ ] Disable sharing....." box, yes, it unchecked. So I am in the
sharing mode.

HISTORY:

about two days ago, I downloaded a small mpg file, think it was "Mentos" and
after it D/L'ed and I viewed it, I coninuted on my way, without deleting it.
About 2 hours laters, would you believe it, someone was D/L'ing that SAME file
I had just D/L'ed!!! No kidding!! Instead of kicking ther person off, I let the
UP/L'ng continue, since it was doing 3.7k-4.8k - not bad for 56k, but it WAS
only one person. That file, was in my "My Shared Folder" that Morpheus had
put there during it's D/L'ng.

Well, keep the file where it is, till we can figure out how to download.

Am I searching the wrong way?
I tried, ie,

and nothing!
I'll keep trying.

O.k. one more try... If we are on different servers then this is futile..unless you sign on and then off again until fate has it that we are on the same one. If Morpheus works like Napster did then there were only 2 main servers that they would put you on. It was a 50/50 chance of finding someone. Unfortunately your right about Morpheus not having a people finding function. Only when you are actually downloading can you make the most of what other people have got on their hardrives (I mean shared folder )
Try searching for the movie "The Others" I have just put this into my shared folder.. It is in 2 parts. 1 is 215,298Kb and the other is 199,392.

Its telling me that 116 people have got a file with the same name as mine. Hopefully you'll see my name under user when you use the search function... If not then we are not on the same server

you made mention that there were/are two servers in use.
I theorize that, when my connect as is vhelp@MusicCity, I'm on one server,
and when my connect as is vhelp@???, then I'm on the other server.

Currently I'm connected as vhelp@???
So, I'm going to bet that if I get out of Morpheus completely, and restart it
up again, maybe i'll get connected as vhelp@MusicCity - I noticed happening
a few times like this.

anyone know how all those files get catagorized???

ie, Title / Artist / User / etc. . . .

I'm going to keep those files in my shared folder(s)
and, just for the record, if I have any files I feel like sharing
with others, I'll always start them with "vhelp" in the begining
of each file. This way, you know these are mine, or that I
just felt like sharing it and making it easier for those to D/L
them.

Morpheus and Kazaa are one and the same. They are made by the same people and have the same interface. The only major difference is that a lot of people are loathe to use Kazaa since it contains 2 or 3 spyware programs. Whilst harmless, they feed marketing info to related companies about what you are downloading. Before anyone claims that this is bullshit because they've run the adaware program on it, try running a search in Google to come up with websites that tell you how to disable the spyware features.
As for the sharing features, they are far from perfect, but short of learning the complexities of IRC there is no other real choice. In short Morpheus is designed so that even the most brain dead of citizens can locate files. Any system that appeals to the lowest common intelligence denominator, will always attract the most users period.... That is why anyone trying the vast multitude of alternatives will ultimately end up dissapointed. There are 1 or 2 exceptions...
The new version, due very shortly will hopefully clear some probs, but by and large this is one of the best programs of its type around.
Don't expect to view your own files when you put in a search request. In short you cant, you just see everyone elses... It is in testament to the popularity of these applications that they have to have more than 1 server to handle the volume of people. That is why, you couldn't find me, I was obviously on a different server. With the old Napster prog, they had two official servers and if you downloaded special software, then abot 200 unofficials ones as well.
I cant relate to this stability issue with being cut off their server... I've just got out of bed and The Lord Of The Rings has done 120MB of download on my 56k. I'd lost my connection as well, but only because AOL kicked me off. Any time you lose a connection with Morpheus (and I've never found it to be that frequent)it should simply reconnect shortly. Failing that click on file - disconnect and then reconnect...
As for personalising your file information, click on the my media tab, right click on your file and take it from there. It is all neatly laid out so that you can put whatever comments you see fit... Other than that refer to the help tab and their guide gives you detail on this subject.
As for wanting other people to upload from you Your only concern on 56k will be how to get rid of them (something which until Morpheus arrived was less than easy).
Finally private message me with your email address and I'll send you the morpheus X enhancement, or better still I get you the link in a moment...

This may even work on Kazaa...
Make sure you download the utility and the dat repairer. When activated (done by clicking on the small . in the top right of the program) you'll see an icon very similar to Morpheus's own sat next to it on your tool bar. This damn thing is loathe to let your download stop To stop downloading, pausing your download will no longer work, you have to ctrl + Alt + Del and cancel Norpheus x. Have fun.

sorry for not posting sooner!

I had major CPU/MB issues right after my last post to this thread!!

In short, my MB's Mouse and Keyboard support failed and I could not
get back into windows. Even at the BIOS, I couldn't press a key.

ASUS TXP4 for approx 5 years, till yesterday, it's ad it's last day and
I'm afraid I have to find another resting place (along side my trusty
old Hauppauge Wintv PCI) - Haven't set any fueneral appointments
yet, but all is invited!

and other related issues on my latest delima. ...when I finish posting
it. Just come back, case you're curious.

bil, in short, I have to install Morpheus all over again, but on this pc now.
I'm a bit bogged down today. Spent the whole night and today on my
second pc, which I depend on for my interneting needs.

Anyways, I hope you haven't deleted the "patch" file as I still (after all this
2nd pc issues) want to try and reteave it. It's a small file, I'm sure, and
if you could keep it in your folder I would be happy - but you don't have to.
I'll understand. I will try again, as soon as I finish this post, give or take
a few minutes, etc...
Also, since i'm on my first pc, I have plenty of samples of clips that I can
put into my Shared folder for D/L'ing.
Question, do you have or is there a special way of naming these files for
Morpheus to search and find my files????
And, how to all those files get catagorized???

On another note, I've ben busy, yes, even with my 2nd pc issues, I've also
ben busy with my other encoding projects. And, I've made some startling
discoveries. would you believe in VCD's??? Go figure. I can't stand them,
but in my latest discoveries, I've stumbled on enhanced quality, but at the
same or standard VCD specs!! ie,
* MPEG-1
* 352x240
* 128 - 224 audio ...(I'm using 128k)
* no filters!! other than the Deinterlace and Sharp.
When I say enhanced, I actually mean good quality, in comparison to my
old BAD quality, even with hardware mpeg1 or TMPG, etc... But, in
short, the quality is comparable to VHS or better. I'm still looking for the
blocks in them. And, if you have to actually look for blocks, you know you
have good encodes!

Well, that's enough for now on this. Just thought I'd mention it. I'm sure
that no-one here is interested in my latest VCD indevers.

Actually,

someone was trying to d/l a one of my vhep... files,but my line had disconnected or the person
aborted, ...it was cutting it close to the 10th hour. ...by actualcrazy..... on Morpheus.

It's back up if you wanna try an d/l those two VHS like quality files, names are:

17.5mb / "vhelp-07a-123001-15-5th-element-diva fight scene-stndrd-vcd-betterthanvhsqlty.mpg"
23.1mb / "vhelp-10a-123001-14-5th-element-stndrd-vcd-betterthanvhsqlty.mpg"

These two are now catagorized, so it should be able to find in Morpheus, I hope
