I just go AVS video capture from avs media.I am using EZDVDMaker capture hardware to take videos from Vhs to MPG4 video. The promblem is that EZdvdmaker does not work with AVS video capture hardware. The audio slows up and stops and also I can't record in MPG4 4 format.I can record just not MPG4 format.I tried HAUPPAUGE WinTV-USB but the video capture is so poor.I want a capture hardware that is usb 2.0 compatible and work with AVS video capture and uses composit cables.

Ezdvdmaker comes with its own software , I highly recommend you use it if you dont have nero vision express or ulead videostudio .

From my experience , it's not far off from the usb quality I get from the avertv usb2 device , though this usb2 device is sweet ... it is not plug and play friendly (draws 0.5amp usb current) .

The device must be connected to the pc while the pc is off , otherwise invest in a powered hub , which dosent effect the capture's .

Connecting device to a pc in the powered state can trigger "usb reset warning" ... from here on , the capture ability gose down in quality , and can be intermittent .

In this area , replacement motherboard is the ultimate choice .

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Both device's , I have do support both composite/svideo .

    Tested capture's using :
Ulead video studio - require's system's with plenty of cpu power .
Nero Vision Express - work's flawlessly with either device .
    Product supplied software - work's flawless , though it's a cut down version ... that irritate's me .

These are the only one's I was able to get satisfactory result's from ...
    other's tested don't compare .

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for mpeg4's , you have an easier choice here .

Record with the supplied software , or other ... which ever give's best result's .

Re-encode to mpeg 4 using mediacoder , much nicer gui than super and allow's for plenty of tweaking .

Or encode video using virtualdub to any mpeg4 type avi format .

Xvid , divx , realmagic , mpegable avc , or other's ... oh , they have to be installed of course .

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for recording directly to mpeg4 ... never got the setting's for full pal res to work ... but other's fine ... 352x288 brilliant .

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just checked out that avs product ... what a waste ... I do these things using only a few freeware products ... which do the same work .

As to your needing an "avs" supported usb2 hardware ... get in touch with this company and enquire ... they should beable to advise you on a suitable product ... after all , it's in their best interest if their product is too sell well .
