Does this sound right, I think I need to buy a Dolby 5.1 Pluging from the Nero site so I get sound when I burn a DVD? Is this a simple thing to do or not? I can only asume that the pluin will install where it needs to go?

No, you'd only need that codec if you were going to be producing 5.1 surround sound. You should be fine without it, provided you were creating a DVD with only stereo sound.
It's different if you are copying a DVD - the surround stream is already there so you still won't need it, but your copy will still have surround sound.
Hope this answers your question!
