I have recently gotten a new computer (without an IEEE port) and I want to transfer my 8cm DVD-R disc to the larger DVD-RW disc. My computer does have a DVD R/RW DVD+r DL drive and several USB ports. I have tried several options to move the DVD-R files to the DVD-RW disc but have not had any luck. I have Nero, Windows Movie Maker and Sonic MY DVD with the DVD Movie Album programs. I know that I need to use the DVD Movie Album to capture movies in order to use the other programs. I am really frustrated because none of this is easy and the terminology is confusing. I want to combine the smaller discs onto the larger ones with some "fun" editing - I don't want to do a lot of detail changes. What do you all recommend purchasing ( I have been told the Pinnacle Studio programs were good). Would you purchase the IEEE port ( What about the ones from Walmar?) or would you purchase the Studio program with the USB hardware. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If not you may be able to get a great deal on a computer and video camera on ebay!

If your camera has Firewire (1394A) output, by all means get a PCI Firewire card. I don't know about Walmart(?), but most any Firewire card will usually work. They cost about $20US or so.

Your 8cm discs may be an incompatible format for your DVD reader, if not, XP should have recognized them. If you get a Firewire card, try WinDV for transfers in DV format.
