I have two commericial DVDs of the same show, (one domestic, the other foreign) - and I want to take the English subtitles from the R1 DVD and be able to view them when watching the video print of the R3. Combining the two to burn on a new DVD-R would be fine. Having the subs permanently imprinted on to the video would be fine too.

But my first question would be - how easy is it to do, how long would it take, how error-proof are the current processes to do so?

Right now, that's more important to me than the actual "how" because I would need to be doing it often if I commit to the project I have in mind and if it's not a somewhat easy/user-friendly process then it's likely I could be just as happy with the R1 versions alone.

Then if somebody could give me a few brief hints on "how" to do it with a link/whatever that'd be great too.

    Thanks...

add it to the other dvd

that might take a day or two

but then you might have to manually sync the subs...and then it is not worth it....

Forgetting accuracy for a moment, pgcdemux to strip subs as sup files. Pgcdemux to strip audio, video, existing subs as sup files. Muxman to put together, Vobblanker to merge new vobs into orig. title. Easy with guides posted here at videohelp.

Now accuracy... If frame rates etc. are different, timeing may/may not be off. OCR, edit, correct timing, recreate sup file. Position might well be off, though that can be corrected with recent software. You will not have new subs showing on menu (have to use remote button) -- editing in Pgcedit or remake/redo programs... or re-author.
