There's nothing wrong with Nero in particular, although I haven't used it since version 6.3 something. So dunno about v.7.
But I can almost guarantee you'll have problems if you install multiple burning apps without uninstalling Nero (and use the Nero clean tools!). In the past there have been known conflicts with Roxio, and I have personally had serious conflicts between Nero and RecordNow.
For burning DVD Video, many people (myself included) use IMGTool Classic (to create ISO image) in conjunction with either DVDDecrypter or IMGBurn to burn ISOs. That's about as reliable a method as there is, and will not conflict with Nero. Use Nero for everything else.
And if you have problems, I'd first look at:
1) User error. Sorry, had to say it.
2) Failure to do regular "housekeeping", e.g. defrag, malware scans to prevent drains on resources, etc. Anything that might cause buffer underruns.
3) Crap media.
JMHO. Good luck.Pull! Bang! Darn! -
DVDDecrypter or it's decendant ImgBurn is still the best in my book for burning Video DVD images.

Both Copytodvd & Dvddecrypter are good

I'm currently using Nero 7. It's the most versatile software I've found.
It may not be the best for everyone because the best burning software is the best software that works the best for you. -
If your complaint is just speed of burning, you need to work on your burner or media. There is only a little difference in speed between burning apps. Some say there is a quality difference, but I have found it to be small. I use decrypter to burn, but only because it is easy.

As already mentioned the "BEST" IMO and many other user's is IMGTools Classic to create an ISO and IMGBurn (Better IMHO than the former DVDDecrypter, which I still use just for the ripping part) to burn the ISO.
For other burning eg data, audio ect... I would choose Prassi ONES.Its non bloat and reliable.
Nero is rather buggy and bloated in its current state.
P.S Stay away from Roxio~Luke~
