Just got digital cable today and I am getting some sort of interference in the form of a black bar scrolling accross the picture from right to left when I try to use my 5005. It isn't there when watching tv, only when watching or recording through the recorder. Hook up is composite cables from the cable box to the recorder and composite back to the tv. Any help would be greatly appreciated because right now I can't record anything from tv!

Does it go away if you disconnect the output to the TV?

Another cause might be unsynced input from other input sources. Best way to troubleshoot is to disconnect things until you discover the source of the problem.

  4. Its most likely Macrovision "protection" that cable companies are using. Technology differs, so I'm not sure the Macrovision hack will fix, but its worth a try if you are willing to change your firmware with an MV hack.

There are posts on this board explaining how.

Just record, then connect and watch.
This would assume the problem is AC power or video crosstalk.

I'm glad Comcast isn't doing that yet. No cable Macrovision here.

Thanks all. It goes away when the coax is disconnected from the TV. Wish there was a fix for this.

Get a video ground loop isolator.

If possible, plug everything into the same circuit breaker to get the grounds matched.
