I'm using HDTV2DVD 0.4 to convert 24GB of captured .ts from this year's Rose Bowl Game. The input is 1280x720 progressive and DD 5.1 audio. First, HDTV2DVD is a great tool that runs pretty fast ( a plus when you've got 24GB of .ts to convert!) and the audio stays in synch throughout. Just wish I had a option to turn off the DVD VOB creation step - I just need the S2D file, thanks.
BUT.. there's a presistent set of quality issues that I've noticed. First - there's a bit of motion blur - the application appears to retain the progressive encode from the original 720p source - I've found that reencoding with TMPGEnc using Intelace as the encode method produces a smoother result- but the difference is subtle.
MUCH WORSE is the dreaded aliasing/jaggies/stair stepping/barber polling/shimmering anytime the camera pans or zooms against a diagonal line or high contrast stationary image (like the logo on the field).
Any thoughts on how to get around this? I'd be happy to send a small .ts file that illustrates the problem. Whoever solves this gets a commerative 4-DVD copy of probably the best college bowl game this century.
