guide on how to type new subs

hi guys i've already posted time ago for some help to how to add subtitles to a dvd , but all the responses told me about guides to how to add existing subs to a dvd, or edit existing subs
is there anybody out there that can show me a guide(step by step)on how to take a dvd (homemade movies that a local company did for me) and actually type new subtitles to it?
the dvd that i have does not have any subs in it .
i don't want to keep the menus or anything , all i want is the movie and the subtitle appearing on the bottom! is there any program that actually let you watch the movie and while you watch you type the subs?
