I am a long time member but wasn't sure what catgory for this, computer, rendering, how about we just create a section called UGGG I AM FRUSTRATED.

I mentioned this before BUT here we go.

I am getting exceedingly slower and slower render times from various programs. TMPG, Vegas, either one doesn't matter.

    Background to eliminate posts

    All drives are defragged
Going from one Raid 0 set to another (as I always have)

    Memory, plenty - 2gig
    storage, plenty ..1.2 terrabytes

    ASUS P4P800 Delux motherboard

1 hour editted video, render out of vegas as AVI. If no adjustments will render to AVI in minutes

Now, I take AVI and render MPEG (Using TMPG) from DISK A to DISK B) 1 hour long. Used to take 1.5 hours to 2 hours but never more than 2 to 1 ratio.

Now that same render is taking 4 to 6 hours !!!! BOTTLENECK somewhere

I ran Sandra on the drives and they are so fast Sandra gets a sprained neck trying to keep up so that eliminated that

I even switched from the SLOW 2 pass to the 2 Pass let TMPG figure it out (its escaping me now the setting but yo uall know what I mean)

    Same results, settings seem irrelevant.

Could I have a messed up environment setting ? Some COdec that snuck in ? This is madness. But same thing in Vegas ..though it is actually slightly faster but I hate MainConcept compared to TMPG

My system is twealed as tweaked can be..BUt I do have the Dreaded Norton Anti Virus running always..I tried shuttingdown and did not see a noticable difference...

Thoughts ? And thanks ..this board is always , remains and will always be a video geeks friend....

You may want to try making your renders on a NON RAID drive and see what happens.

    Just a thought.

Dont have any and I want my original speed on teh original setup BUT I may have stumbled on something...

    1) I saw something that said set your environment variables to 4096 ..MIne was unchecked (greyed) So I checked and it will let me set CAche

    2) My order for VFAPI looks funky and directshow is not checked.

    Here we go...My order is
    Cyberlink Mpeg 2
    Ligos Mpeg 2
    Microsoft Mpeg 1
    Wavefile Reader
    Avi synth Vitrualdub
    DVD2AVI
    MPEG Video wizard
    Mpeg 2 Video Plugin (m2v.vfp)
    Tmpg Project file reader
Direct show (this one was NOT checked..thought it had to be???)
    AVI VFW compatibility reader

Anyone see anything wrong with teh order ? Are the Ligos and Cyberlink overkill ? To high in the order ?

    3) Also my Largesystemcache setting was 0 and I udnerstand I can get better access set to 1 (alongwith Paging Executive ...DO search on these and yoll see the tweak...)

I am most concerend about my VFAPI setting though///

I can't image tmpgenc being fast enough to render one hour of avi in under two hours. Vegas, perhaps, as mainconcept is a faster encoder than tmpgenc.

Took me forever to find my post...I did achieve very good speeds, same config before.

BuT my times now are 4:1 to 5:1 (4 hours or 5 hours to render 1) ..Its horrible. I am really wondering what about the VFAPI list i showed ?

    Thanks
