I am curious about others' experiences with Ritek Dual Layer DVD media. I have found the opinions on media that I have read on this forum to closely corelate with my own in many cases. I have read a number of negative opinions about Ritek DL media on this forum. However, I have used both Verbatim and Ritek DL media and found that they both perform well. I use a Pioneer 110 for DL recording. I'm wondering if there is a significant difference when using other burners. The media ID on the Ritek media I have is RICOHJPND00. I am not a Ritek fan. My experience with Ritek single layer DVD media has been mixed. But I don't see any difference in either playablity or scans on Ritek versus Verbatim DL media.

  2. ive had a few hiccups with ritek DL discs/dye,and some with cmc too,but IMO verbatim have consistantly played better on most of my players, and burnt well too.
and the burners were pioneer 108/109/110.
had an nec and a benq before but they didnt agree with either my software,or there location,so were unceremoniously binned in place for pioneers superior writers
and ive never bothered scanning, for me,if it plays and still plays a while later thats fine for me.dont flame me,im not against it,if thats what floats your boat, but i just find it pointless.

    RITEK bad
    RICOH can go both ways
    MKM have few errors

It's usually the layer break, and second layer data, that is a problem.

Does Ricoh make a dual layer 8.5G DVD?

    If so who has them?

The media that I am referring to is Ritek (Ridata) branded media but it has the Ricoh Media ID. I am not sure of the story on that one.

  7. I haven't had any success with Ritek's dual layer media with any firmware revision on my Pioneer 109's. Generally I defend Ritek but their dual layer media has given me a 100% failure rate and I'm not sure if that's poor write strategy on my writer or naff media.

I don't mind the Ricoh discs but the second layer seems to have a higher error rate than I'd like to see when verifying the data - so I'd have to vouch for the Verbatim media too which has almost always worked perfectly for me to date.
