  1. I tried to encode the movie Blade in cvcd format (with 1050 bitrate). I got a 777 mb file, but i try to play with wmp 8 and it doesn't work. Than when i go to play it with WinDVD it works perfect.

Anyways, I tried to burn with Nero 5.5, and it said it wasn't compliant or something?

Is cvcd supposed to be nero compliant?

Calling cvcd a format will just get you in trouble around here. It's a template. One of many XVCD templates available here. Since it is not a VCD it is a XVCD and thus non-compliant. wmp will play it if you open the .dat file on the disc. It's just an mpeg1 video. As for Nero, turn off compliance and it will not bother you again.
If you want 500 people yelling at you, keep calling cvcd a format. I hope this helps.

  3. Well I dont see how people can "yell" through computers...

Anyways, I guess i didn't make myself clear. i cant even play the newly encoded file on my computer, before i burn it to a cd.

Also, because its 770 mb, Nero says i need a larger capacity cd. But people in this forum say u can fit on 800 mb. How do u do this?

If you read the posts about cvcd being called a format you'd see yelling and flaming.

Now back to your problem. I'm gunna ask you some questions.
    1) Have you burned other discs in Nero like xvcd or vcd successfully and played them?
    - if no, then burn a compliant test disc - see tools section on this site

    2) Are the disc you are using atleast 80min cds?
    - if no, then you are not gunna make it fit

    3) Are you using Mpeg2 instead of Mpeg1 in the cvcd template?
    - if yes then that's why the DVD software will play it but not wmp

  5. In response to your questions:

    1) I have burned VCDs successfully with Nero and played them on my DVD

    2) I am using the standard cvcd settings, including mpeg-1 video (although i lowered bitrate by 100)

    3) I am using 700 mb cds

Hope this helps u decipher the problem!

This will definitely solve your problem. You are basically making a XVCD and the file is less than 800 mb but Nero said you need a larger capacity disk. This is because when you made this file, you must have forgotten to set the file as mpeg-1 (Non-standard), so when Nero tries to read it or if you tried to make it into a bin file, it will create a huge file bigger than 800 mb. So, next time, when you are using TMPEGENC, make sure to go to SET UP and under the SYSTEM tab, make sure you have set the file system to non-standard. (do not set as mpeg- automatic)

Now, since you have already generated this file, all you need to do is go to MPEG TOOL in TMPEGENC under MERGE & CUT tab, and run your file thru it. Don't need to cut, just run it, however, make sure you have choose mpeg-1 (Non-standard) format. This will take about 5 minutes, and the resulting file will be just a little bit smaller than the file you already have, but Nero will now be able to burn it.

Now you were saying that WMP won't play your file, but WinDVD will. That sounds like you have a mpeg-2 file, but then you said you are making a mpeg-1 video. I don't know, something is not right there. Try the method stated above first, and let's go from there.

  7. Thanks very much Siadodo, at least now the movie fits on the cd and plays on the dvd. The only problem is that the video is out of sync by like a second on the dvd, but on the computer it's fine.

Do you think if i convert to non standard vcd from the start it would work, rather than going back and doing it in mpeg tools?

That would be a most unwise idea.

If u re-encode an MPEG it's gonna reduce the quality.

If your video & audio is out of sync on DVD but fine on computer, it is probably your DVD player is not quite compatible for XVCD.

Take your Cd and try it on some ther DVD player, if they play good, then your DVD is not compatible. If all the other DVD players you tried does the same thing, then you may want to De-multiplex your file using Tmpegenc, use BBmepg to re-multiplex, with this program, you can delay either the audio or video by a whatever milli-second you choose when you re-multiplex the files back together. You can download the file for free, just go to the tool section.

I think more than likely your DVD is not compatible.

You stated above that you are using CVCD format. I really don't like that format, some Spanish guy thought it up to put 120 minutes on 1 CDR without losing quality. I just don't know, I don't have much luck with that format, and it seems to give a lot of people much trouble. I will stick with the VCD/SVCD/XVCD/SXVCD templates that is readily availble.

If you still have the original file before you code it to CVCD, then you might want to try re-code it with the the templates of your choosing. Yes, it is not a good idea to re-code the finished mpeg, because you will lose quality.

Oh, nuts, I called CVCD a format, am I going to get in trouble?
