  1. I have noticed that they updated the drivers recently to include interlace capture. At first, I was excited because interlace is the way to go when capturing from analog source (in my case, VHS)

I use MPEG2. 720x480 framesize, 5000bitrate and top quality. Unfortunately, I am using my onbaord sound for capturing the audio, so when I first tried to capture with the new drivers, my audio was WAY out of sync. Even towards the end of the capture, the video was all messed up, I was so mad.

I then tried to capture with the ULead Video studio that came as bundled software. VOILA! No dropped frames, and audio was in sync.

I then run the 3+ Gig mpeg 2 file (for about 1hr video) thru AVI2DVD to get it ready for frameserving, then load this and the audio file thru TMPEGEnc using 480x480 framesize, interlace encode and source,29.97 fps, clip frame (bottom) 8 pixels and 48K/192bit Audio settings to get a just over 1.3 Gig file. Also use some color and sharpness tweaking built into TMPEGEnc to correct picture quality abit.

Once I am done encoding, I load all the files into DVDLab, create menus and links then compile the DVD. I never worry if the finished product goes over size, when it does, I just throw the finished product thru DVDShrink with all the optimal settings and everything works out. I just did this for a friend, capturing 3 old Wonder Woman VHS tapes and put them onto DVD this way. We were both totally impressed with the quality at the end.

If anyone has some other stories to add to this, I would love to hear them, I may pick up some good tips from you as well.

    Cheers

  2. Personally, I think their bundled software is crap. I've been using VirtualVCR with the HuffYUV codec for years and have been happy with it.
