burn speed=read speed?

just a quick question. when you burn something at a certain speed, does it mean that when you insert the disc into tour drive and read from it, the max reading speed it just that speed? or does the speed just refer to the speed at which you burn?

for example, when burning a CD at 40x. does it burn at 6000kb/s and read at 6000kb/s max later on, or just burns at 6000kb/s and reads later at whatever your drive's max read speed is?

It depends what you're putting on the CD. If you're burning audio tracks at 40x, that means "40x normal speed". However, when you play it back it'll 1x normal speed.

If you're burning data discs, then the CD reader will spin up to the max speed the disc is rated at.

erm... so, let me get this right. burn speed only affects the speed of burning right? if i burn data at 40x on a disc that can go up to 52x, and play it back on a 52x read drive, it'll play at 52x right?

It also depends of the cd's brand.

Ie: your burn 2 cd of different brands with exactly the same content at 16x but when you read them brand a will be read at 24x and brand B is read at 32x.

And don't forget that the max speed is usually only attained on the outer edges of the disk.

oh that's ok. i was just afraid that burning at low speeds would cause low read speeds too. i can't really do anything to change the speed at which a certain brand's discs read at, so i'll just buy my usual brands. thanks anyway.
