  1. I don't know if this is actually all that hard, but basiclly im trying to reencode an MPG video files, so my output will have much better contrast, and richer colors. Like if you had filmed something through a video camera, and you wanted the colors to look more like professional quality film. I would appreciate anyones feedback who does this, or knows of a program that is good for this. If you could just point me in the right direction that'd be great. Thanks all.

    dude,

    in short, DVD2AVI it back to an AVI file.
    Then, you can (in TMPG) modifiy the color to your heart-est content...
    or somthing like that!
    This method really works!

    Just remember, if it was encoded at 1150 bitrate, chances are, going
    higher will not get you better quality - tried as a test, and was not
    very satisfied with results. But then again, I'm not a VCD guro, so I
    didn't try really hard. (I shouldn't have to) So, stick with the origonal
    bitrate OR lower, and you will be very happy! Same w/ SVCD, if ie, it
    was encoded at 2400, use 2400 or less bitrate. Yes, you can experiment
    if ya wanna, but you AIM or GOAL is to produce the same output
    quality AND adjsut the colors, right?
    This is the BEST method, if you don't have the origonal AVI file to
    begin with. It's not perfect, but it's DAM well near...

    Best of luck to ya dude.

  3. I would prefer to not have to convert it to DivX as I do not want to lose any quality. The original file is an MPG, i would like to encode it to an MPG from the MPG, without having to change formats. All i really need to do is up the quality of the color/contrast, to take out a grey hue, that is very apparent on black screens, and increase the overall quality.

    k1lroy,

    How R U viewing this?
    * is it for TV viewing
    * or PC viewing

    I think, that PC viewing will show grays in black areas, becuase when you stretch
    a small video, ie, VCD (352x240) to your screens resolutions of ie, 1024x768
    the colors will look kind of washed or something. But, on your tv, you really
    (shouldn't) can't tell the difference.

    What R the specs for you mpeg clip(s) ??
    * mpeg1 (vcd)
    * mepg2 (svcd)
    * bitrate of these clips
    * you viewing goal, ie, TV or PC

    * ...for starters

    If you don't wanna go the AVI route (I wasn't talking about DivX either), then
    you could just save as a project in DVD2AVI, and open in TMPG and adjust
    your colors and then finally re-encode your clip. No mention of DivX in my
    prev post!
