I've got a laptop and a pc and want to hook them up with USB and transfer files from the laptop to the pc. How would I do this with just a USB cable?

Looks like you may need a special cable.

If they had LAN ports, you could just use a crossover cable, once you have set both of them up. The old alternative is the serial ports or the parallel ports. -
other solution is if they are on same network just create a shared folder on one computer and move files back and forth that way.
