I have been using Nerovision Express 2 to author and burn.

I downloaded the new Womble Mpeg Video Wizard-DVD tonight to try it out. I have bought the Mpeg Video Wizard and like it, so I figured I'd try their authoring app. One thing I noticed is that I seemed to be able to add more files using the Mpeg Video Wizard, which seemed odd.

Using Mpeg Video Wizard I was able to add the same 12 minute 37 second video clip 9 times before nearing the capacity of the disc. Then I opened up Nero and I could only get 7 of this same clip. It told me I was over the disc capacity when I added the 8th file.

I fact, I have noticed that using the Nero product I can only get about 3.6 gigs on a disc using their authoring app. Any input appreciated- thanks!

It's hard to tell what Nero is doing, maybe reencoding. That's one of the reasons many of us don't use it for encoding or authoring. It does well at burning though.

I haven't tried Womble for authoring. I use TMPGEnc DVD Author most of the time because it's easy. It has a trial version also.

And this is mainly an authoring question. Moving you.

Nero may be converting your audio to PCM which takes more space.

Thanks for the response- you nailed it.

After checking into it, this is exactly what is happening. I don't think there is anyway to stop this- at least I couldn't find it. When I first tried to burn a clip with AC3 audio, it told me I had to pay for the Nero AC3 plug-in, which I bought and downloaded ($20 I think). I assumed then I was keeping the AC3 audio- wrong.

Time to find a new authoring app.

Could have told you that long ago! Nero may be fine for writing data to disc, but that's about it.

That's for encoding the audio to 2 chnl AC3 - not keeping the already good and dandy AC3 from the source file.
