anywho... i was looking for one that'll also play divx on top of dvd+-rws that's under/around 80$ US. i know apex makes one, but i read some "so-so" reviews here and around the net..

I think one of the better DVD players around right now is the Pioneer DV-588A-S

Features excellent picture quality and can handle a lot of formats including DivX/XviD as well as DVD-Audio and SACD. Also does MP3 and WMV music files and JPEG pictures.

It has a 12-bit 108Mhz DAC and features built-in DD and DTS decoders along with the usual connectors like digital audio output and component output etc.

    Pretty impressive.

The cheapest price I could find was $120 though which I know is more than what you said but I think it would be worth it. Maybe if you look around more you can find a better price (I only checked PRICEBRABBER.COM but nowhere else).

Several places also sell a region free model that does PAL to NTSC conversion (and very well) but that version usually goes for $180 to $200 but is worth the price if you need that functionality as a Pioneer cannot be hacked to do this easily (no simple "secret" menu remote control hack here).

The philips DVP-642 will play most anything disc shaped. It's a good DVD/CD/DivX/JPEG player which can be found for around $50-$60.
