I have a 2-part .avi movie (cd1, cd2) both having seperate .idx and .sub files.

I usually just use nerovision or tmpgenc express to transcode but i cant find a way to add subs in either of them.

I realise DivXToDVD supports this but im a little worried about the quality.

What is the best way to do do this without using avisynth?

  2. You add the subtitles at authoring stage. That means also you need an authoring software that support subtitle muxing.

If you're comfortable with using NeroVision, the quality of DivXToDVD shouldn't worry you...

nero vision is far better than DivXtoDVD despite what you may think.

I have done many transcodes with both and nero beats it hands down every time.

TDA doesn't support subtitles (not even their new "Pro" version)

  7. GFD - with menus. Best if you have text subtitles. That means you need to OCR your idx/sub files.
Muxman - without menus natively (it can author also menus, but it need a Scenarist script to do that). Use subtosup tool to convert idx/sub to sup - format required from muxman.
BTW GFD can accept also sup files.

i have cd1 and cd2 of subs. when i try to add the 2nd cd's subs it mus overwrite the 1st one i made.

How do i convert .sub/.idx to .srt?
I tried using vobsube but it wanted me to enter in every letter and then left heaps of .bmp images in the movie's dir.

  10. In the vobsub folder there is Vobsub joiner. You join the two idx/sub parts with it.

now the source is 23.976 fps, im using tmpgenc express to convert to mpeg2 first. As i understand it uses 3/2 pulldown. Will I have to conevrt the subs since they are originally 23.976?
