    Hello,

I've upgraded my pc, my old ATI All in Wonder was obsolete because the new board just have PCIE, no AGP. I bought a Leadtek WinFast XP but it doesn't record Closed Captions like the old i had. (All in wonder recrods in .VCR Format and creates a .CC File that contains captioning data)

I Know that it's possible to use graphedit, but it's not easy to do that, i'm looking for a new card that supports what I need (at least a file with captioning). I have read many reviews on TV Wonder Elite, TV Wonder USB 2.0, TV Wonder Pro, but none mention something about CC.

Anybody know about a card that have my needs?

    Regards.

    my system...

Country: Mexico (but i can buy any card that is selling in the US)
    Board : INTEL 945GNT
    CPU : Intel Pentium D 820 (2.8 Ghz)
    Memory : 1GB DDR2 533
Video : Using the one what is included in the board
Sound: Generic 5.1 sound card, or can use the one included in the board.
    Budget : USD $ 120.00
Input : Old VCR, 8mm tapes, TV Shows, Satellite System. (need input Composite and/or S-Video)

Double check but I think Hauppauge supports cc, records in mpg2 stream using their software. AFAIK the only company to save an extra CC text file is ati with their MMC, in addition to saving CC in their captured .vcr files (or mpg2 with MMC >= 9.13) If ati gets their act together, might be able to use MMC in the near future with their TV cards, not just aiw.

Otherwise if your current card shows CC in video window, think there's capture software that will save text file, but unless someone else knows which one(s) specifically, you'll have to just read specs after looking in tools section & googling.

  3. Hauppauge PVR-250 is the card.
The 150 and 500 won't do CC, not sure about the 350 or the USB2.

It would be great if there was a third party software that capture closed captions from video window, I have read and searched a lot about this with no success, if somebody knows one, please advise. I know using graphedit is a solution, I tried it but is tedious and in my case it captures incomplete captions and introduce garbage, doesn't work for me.

    I just have two doubts...

    1) Can ATI TV WONDER Cards capture .VCR format and create .CC File?
    2) Hauppauge PVR-250 create a text file? or does it mantain CC Data on MPEG?

"Can ATI TV WONDER Cards capture .VCR format and create .CC File?"

*If* ATI fixes the latest MMC, it'll save both the "title".cc text file & the captioning in the captured mpg2 file. But right now this initial release of a reworked MMC seems very buggy, & it's not certain which cards it will support, officially & not. The ati theater 500 cards do seem to work with it, but how well is hard to tell because MMC still needs work - IMO a fair amount of work.

many thanks mikiem for your help...

According what i have learned, the cheapest card from ati (TV Wonder Pro, $69.00 USD) does the work, it creates a TV Magazine, and works with HOTWORDS™.

I have one more doubt, does it include MMC? , on ATI WebSite don't mention it, anyone knows?

    Regards.
