  1. I own a pioneer DVR-420H-S and wanted to put come video files on a dvd via my pc so i could then play it on my DVR-420H-S. I have now tried it with 2 different medic manufacturers(Philips and tdk) and when i try to play something i get squares everywhere. This intensifies as the movement on the people on the video move more. I also wanted to get some files from the DVR-420H-S so i can play them on either my ps2 or pc. I burned a program onto a TDK DVD-RW at High Speed Copy mode the it did not work on either my ps2 or my pc.

I also tried Optimized Copy that also failed, can someone please help me with my problems thanks.

This is a link to the official DVR-420H-S page

Doesn't sound right, is it still under warranty?

The DVDs you make on the PC, do they play OK on your PC? Have you checked them out on another DVD player?

The DVDs you make with the Pioneer, what bitrate did you record it initially? SP? XP? And then, did you finalize the disks at the end?

I don't know what's wrong with the DVDs your burned on your PC for playback on the Pioneer. However, when you burn to DVD-RW discs with the Pioneer you have two formatting choices: One is VR-mode and the other is Video mode. If your DVD-RW is initialized in VR-mode then you need specific VR-mode capable software to extract the MPEGs from the DVD to your hard drive. If it is initialized in Video mode you must first Finalize the DVD before it can be mounted in the computer.

  6. Well I'm back guys, first point why on earth if initializing a disc after burning it is needed does it not prompt a user to do it?

I burned it using optimized mode the finalized it, and while it does not play in Media player classic(It stats it as playing but doesn't actual play it) i downloaded VLC medai player and it does work in that, which is great.

Concerning PC to DVR-420H-S the way i did it up to 1 hour a go it was convert eh video file with divxtodvd (0.5.2.99 i.e. the free beta version) then use dvd shrink to convert them to vob files and back them up as a iso file then burn with imgBurn. I instead download the latest divxtodvd which is now called ConvertXtoDVD it also burned it and it works.

Does anyone know why VLC played it and MPC did not, thanks.

I have the 530 Hs and have no problems at all. Firstly, I initialise the DVD-RW in video mode, then record in SP mode and finalise the disc when the recording session has finished. I then take the disc to my computer and use Shrink to edit and Decrypter to burn, never had a problem of any description.

    * VERBATIM *

The most common mistake people make is record in VR Mode, VIDEO MODE is the way to go, Shrink to edit and Decrypter to burn. Do not forget to finalise the disc after recording.

Never initialise a disc on your computer and try to use that disc in the recorder, the recorder has a completely different format.

are you saying i should burn a video file to disc via my PC and finalize it with my DVR-420H-S?

My apologies if this sounds stupid .

NO .... The disc should be initialised in the DVR as the format is completely different to NTFS and Fat32. Once you have recorded and finalised in the DVR you can then put the disc in your computer to edit.

You do need to read again what I said "Never initialise a disc on your computer and try to use that disc in the recorder, the recorder has a completely different format".

There have been cases where people have initialised a DVD-RW on their computer and then tried to use that disc in their DVR.

  12. Right i know get you but how do i stop a burning program from initialising(is finalizing the same thing?) a disc.

Also what program would you recommend for burning videos files to vob?

I am also in very slow discussion with pioneer, over this matter they said

"Some PCs do not encode the video in compliance with the Video or VR mode standards, this can be the reason for the blocks you have seen, you may need to check and update the software you have on the PC."

How do i know if a program complies with those standards. Thanks for all the help.

It sounds to me like you need a DVD Authoring package for the PC. There is a lot that happens in the background when creating a DVD from video files on the computer. The format of the video has to be the right specs for a DVD player to know what to do with them. If you have software to convert your DivX files to mpeg/VOB, that's the first step. You then need something to take the mpeg/VOB files and author them properly.

Click Here for one of the better simple DVD authoring programs. I have used it many times and it works great. The discs play flawlessly on my Pioneer 420.

    I hope this helps.

  14. Thanks Guitarman for the recommendation hopefully it will work as it does on your machine, can i ask what media type, make etc you use, and what speed you burn the discs thanks.

Edit: I have now tried it again converting the video file to vob via DivxToDVD 0.5.2 then using the TSUNAMI-MPEG DVD Author PRO(trial) DVD burner i burned them using TDK DVD-RW 4x. Unfortunetely i still get the exact same problem, squares.

Words cant tell you how annoying this is getting.
