I captured several avi files in Virtualdub using hte PICvideo MJPEG codec. I am now trying to edit them in Vegas 6.0c to join them together and convert them to MPEG2 format so that I can burn to DVD.

The problem is that before I even trim or edit the videos by trimming or anything else, the audio and video go out of sync. I don't even have to add the files to the timeline. I can simply play them in the trim screen, and I will see sync issues. They get worse as the video goes on.

Vegas is the only program that does this. I can view these avi's in any other video player, and load them into any other editing software and I have no sync problems.

I am guessing this has something to do with Vegas's auto a/v sync. I am guessing it is trying to sync and it is actually making it not sync because the program is reading it wrongly. Is there anyway to fix this where it just loads the video and audio from the avi file info locking the two together and thus keeping the file synched?

I have actually not tried to render anything yet because of this issue during editing. All settings in Vegas are at default settings except for how I want to render it (which doesn't even come into play with this problem.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Vegas probably isn't happy with the mjpeg files. You could use something else, or use Virtualdub to turn them into DV AVI files, which Vegas has no problems with.

Actually imported picvid mjpeg into vegas many hundreds of times (thousands?) without a prob., but then I normally use v 4 (very slightly faster mpg2 encode IMO). Double checked the v 6 help file, and didn't see anything re: "auto a/v sync." that does anything without user intervention.

My normal process is to drag to timeline, set clip properties, if 1st clip set proj properties. CBR mp3. wav, & wma have always worked fine.

Guessing, I'd suggest reviewing settings in vegas & preferences, make sure no default FX or transforms, maybe try turning off ASIO (if on), make sure not VBR audio. Might also drag to timeline and see if there's an audio/video mismatch -- Audio starting before/after video.

That said, once you get the vid/audio on the timeline, remove the audio from group (rite-click) and try dragging into sync?
