    MAC OSX 10.3.9 / Toast Titanium v.6 / ffmpegX 0.0.9u

    newbie mac burning question

Hi I have a bunch of .mpg files that I'm trying to put onto one CD using toast 6 - I dropped the mpg onto ffmpegX to see what type it was and it shows as

    mpeg-2 480x576, 2350kbps, 25fps

    audio mp2,44100hz 192 kpbs

First Q: is there a utility such as Gspot but for the Mac that performs a similar function in identyfying codecs etc? or is ffmepgx the best way to identify frame rates / codecs etc

Second - when I select info from ffmpegX it says "alert" and nothing else?

I then tried dropping the mpgs into Toast 6 to create a DVD - I have the options video - pal - and the quality changed to svcd to allow me to squeeze more episodes onto a DVD - i am recording onto a standard DVD-R

When I try to record Toast gives me the message

CDROM XA or Audio tracks cannot be written to DVD

same problem if i choose VCD instead of SVCD

Any ideas as to the quickest way to resolve this? do I need to run it through ffmpegX to change the audio in some way, or is it something simple I'm overlooking??
Or is there a way to change a bunch of .mpg files into one VIDEO_TS folder I can then give to Toast?

I checked all the guides but nothing seems obvious, apologies if I overlooked something.

    Thx in advance

Looks like a regular SVCD compliant PAL mpeg file. One other thing you will always want to know about a video file is duration.

VCD and SVCD are meant to be written to CD-R. The way the (S)VCD data is written to disc is incompatible with DVD discs. That way is called Mode2 Form2, which requires a CD-ROM XA structure.

ffmpegX has a svcdvd tool that will create a DVD from SVCD mpegs, without re-encoding the video (thus fairly fast). One thing to note is that the SVCD video frame size is outside the DVD spec, so some stand-alone DVD players will not play these SVCD-on-DVD dics properly.
