hi everyone.
i know theres some clever people on here, wondered if i can have your help please.
i have 2 avi films, one is excellent picture, but foreign sound, other is poor picture, but english sound.
in laymans terms, what would be the best way to extract audio from 1 and pic from other and then combine them?.
am i right in thinking this would be very technical?i.e getting audio and pic in synch etc.
thanks in advance for any help.

virtualdubmod. Demux the audio from the avi with the good audio. Load up the avi with the poor audio and add the demuxed audio as a new stream. Disable the other stream and use Direct Stream Copy to write the results to a new file.
This will only work if the audio is the same length, that any delays are identical etc. Otherwise you may have sync problems that you will have to correct.Read my blog here.

Hi shamus,
Load the AVI with the good audio into VirtualDub. Save the audio out to a WAV file - this is easily done: File -> Save WAV...
Now load the AVI with the good video, and select the saved WAV as the audio source: Audio -> WAV Audio... -> Select saved WAV file.
Save this arrangement of AVI and WAV:
1) Video -> Direct Stream Copy
2) File -> Save As AVI...
That should do the trick.
EDIT: I had this thread open ages ago, and finished off my reply just now - guns1inger replied in the meantime. Same principal, nearly the same method just a different variant of the same tool. There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

Will this method work with .vob files? Can I save the dubbed ones as .vob? Or, do I have to convert .vob files to .avi?

If the audio is out of sync I would suggest you have different delays in the two files. You need to determine the delay of the new audio, and use either ac3 delay corrector or your authoring app to adjust for it.
