Hi,
I'm trying to convert a bunch of old videos to play on my Creative Zen Vision:M using VirtualDub. Most of these videos were encoded years ago in DivX3 and/or with DivX audio (based on what Gspot tells me). Through trial and error, I've found out that those videos which display "Audio frames: Split across interleaves" in Gspot go out of sync in the player but those which display "Audio frames: Aligned on interleaves" play ok. Whether the audio is in CBR or VBR MP3 does not seem to make a difference.
Anyhow, I've been trying to use numerous programs to "fix" all these bad avi files but all of them are giving me the "Split across interleaves" in Gspot and thus end up going out of sync in the player. I've tried AVIrecomp, AutoGK, MediaCoder and VirtualDub and none so far have been able to give me an avi file with "Aligned on interleaves" in Gspot. My question is, how do I do this in VirtualDub (as this is what I'm most comfortable with).
Thanks!

	Thanks for the reply.
How would AVIMux GUI help me?
I don't need to create avi files with multiple audio tracks or demux to audio/video. I'd also like to have the DV files I record into AVIs to have this "aligned on interleaves" feature. And why can't I do this in VirtualDub?AVIMuxGUI is a tool which allows creating segmented multilingual AVI files that can be replayed even at very low speeds (and therefore very little noise) directly from CD-R or DVD-R. Latest versions support the Matroska MKV format as well. AVIMux GUI can also demultiplex multilingual AVIs, split audio, subtitles tracks from the video.

Wow, that actually works! Thanks! Sorry for sounding so trite in my previous post.

I'm curious as to why VirtualDub or any other program is unable to change this setting? Why is there such a difference and why do videos with "Split across interleaves" go out of sync while those with the "aligned on interleaves" remain in sync? Is there any way this can be done as a batch so that I can automatically change this in all my video files?

 Thanks!

Everytime you open VirtualDub, 'enable audio/video Interleaving' is check by default. Maybe yours is not.

 Just a thought,

	ramian,

Audio/video interleaving should be enabled. I was suggesting that maybe it wasn't.

Not sure what the problem is. Might want to try DivXRepair to check for errors.

As you quoted in your previous post, the "enable audio/video interleaving" option is checked by default everytime I start VirtualDub. I can understand why a resulting video will have problems during playback if the audio was not interleaved with the video.

What I don't understand is the difference between "Aligned on interleaves" and "Split across interleaves". Why isn't VirtualDub able to output video with the former setting? I suppose limitations in the decoding capability of portable video players (such as my Creative ZVM) limit in-sync playback of only videos with audio frames aligned on interleaves, so I can't really question that.

 Thanks!

Check out my tip on Fixya describes VBR to CBR conversion using the LAME ACM and how to get VirtualDubMod to align audio to frames using the AC3 codec

Sadly this wont work with VirtualDub by Avery Lee only on the Modded version v1.5.10.2 bundled in AutoGordianKnot v2.55 and AVI Recomp v1.5 the former of the two is the best way to create DivX or Xvid from a DVD that has been ripped using DVD Decrypter in IFO mode.
