Yeah I've seen. Well I would *email* you but my server was upgraded to Win2k Adv. Server yesterday, and now MSN doesn't work well - I keep getting signed out randomly every 5 or so minutes.
Anyway, now I've got a bigger hunch that RtInterval has something to do with field order in caputure as according to your page (I can't test atm, just re-installed WinXP, got the latest ATI drivers but yet need to re-download MMC 7.5). A RtInterval of 333667 seems to keep the right frame size, yet a RtInterval of 166833 seems to increase the frame size. This I belive is all to do with the built in deinterlace of the MMC capture.
I think it's only supposed to be used on certain frame sizes (proven by the effects of using it). For example: take 352x288 caputure size and not force deinterlace, RtInterval=333667 so the frame size stays the same. However, FORCE RtInterval=166833 then it incrases the vertical resolution to capture both fields. It will stay this way due to (from what I understand) not using the deinterlace option in the MMC. It allows a manual deinterlace? ATM, I'm not too sure.... but what I am sure of is that's supposed to be used with the deinterlace option.
So RtInterval 166833 increases the resolution to capture both fields, allowing manual deinterlace later (assuming deinterace is defualted to off) and RtInterval 333667 keeps frame size? This would seem to explain why there is two ways to achive your resolutions.
Remember all this is assume vericle/horizontal scaleing, deinterlace, 3:2 pulldown etc is OFF.
I may be talking cobblers but who knows? I think this is an option we shouldnt play around with... Any opinions very much welcomed.
Now all I got to do is download MMC 7.5 again (doh!).

Heres a filler while I still work out some stuff. Verticle/Horizontal Motion Estimation Settings in the registry.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ATI Technologies\Multimedia\Features\TV\Video Capture\...
In your profile "Verticle ME Range" and "Horizontal ME Range".
Registry no : MMC ME Range
0:1
1:2
2:4
3:8
4:16
5:32
6:64
7:128
BTW, does your SVCD presets not work because they use a different frame structure?????

Yet more information regarding Verticle/Horizontal Scaling
Selected Res: 352x288
V Scaleing: 0
H Scaleing: 0
Actual Res: 352x288
Selected Res: 352x288
V Scaleing: 1
H Scaleing: 0
Actual Res: 352x208
Selected Res: 352x288
V Scaleing: 2
H Scaleing: 0
Actual Res: 352x144
When set to 3 or above, I get an MPEG Pack Syncronisation Error (if I raise the selected res I can go more). Now for only H Scaleing.
Selected Res: 352x288
V Scaleing: 0
H Scaleing: 0
Actual Res: 352x288
Selected Res: 352x288
V Scaleing: 0
H Scaleing: 1
Actual Res: 176x288
Same pack sync error.... Now for both to be used at the same time.
Selected Res: 352x288
V Scaleing: 0
H Scaleing: 0
Actual Res: 352x288
Selected Res: 352x288
V Scaleing: 1
H Scaleing: 1
Actual Res: 176x208
Now for some maths... 352/176=2 & 288/208=1.385 (rounded)
Time to change the Selected Res so we can get a bigger idea...
Selected Res: 640x480
V Scaleing: 0
H Scaleing: 0
Actual Res: 640x480
Selected Res: 640x480
V Scaleing: 1
H Scaleing: 1
Actual Res: 320x176
From now the MMC *thinks* it IS a different size for capture, but still reports it wrong. Can't go bigger on Verticle Scaleing so some more maths now: 640/320=2 480/176=2.7272
(recurring). A pattern of 2 on the Horizontal Scaleing??? Lets change the Selected Res. again.
Selected Res: 720x576
V Scaleing: 0
H Scaleing: 0
Actual Res: 720x576
Selected Res: 720x576
V Scaleing: 1
H Scaleing: 1
Actual Res: 352x432
Egh.. again I get a pack sync error above 1 (only can use 2 on horizontal OR verticle, not both). Again math time720/352=2.045 (just call it 2) 576/432=1.3 (reurring).
So when horizontal scaling is set to 1, the horizontal res is halfed, but vertical is divided by 1.3 roughly.
Blah.. I hope this helps in some way -
cofferscuffs: just woke up from my new years party - let me digest the info and I'll email you. Seems like some killer info - used with mine I think we are well on our way!
I think I'm coming up with a good equation for the "reslution manager" - I think it all boils down to an equation (if so then we are golden) .. something like reg_valu*(Rt)/vert .. well thats not it but you see what I'm getting at.
I'll send you the stats on my SVCD templates and you can help me figure out whats wrong with them ....
plus I'll send you the URL to the 0.9.0 alpha - I've already replaced the AudioHRz with ME ranges
your pal,
Stinky -
Got your email (just), MSN is still very buggy for me so I'll post my question in here: Wouldn't there be two equations (one for deinterlace and one for interlaced?)?? That is, if I'm right about RtInterval..
BTW, I have no clue about finding out this/these equations, any tips for approches? -
Yea let me drop you an email now ...
your info has provided me with the means to figure out an equation - I'm making a standalone - resolution manager right now to test all options
by any chance do you know how to program VB?
also what did you mean by "Time to change the Selected Res so we can get a bigger idea... "
-stinky
your pal,
Stinky -
Oh I just said that to make sure that there was a pattern.. not a fluke calculation, so I did another resolution to test it again (I hope I'm makeing sense here
).
I know *some* C++ but not VB, but I'm always willing to take a look.
BTW, you didn't send me the SVCD profiles. -
Ahh ok - I'll email them to you now
see if you can figure out my mistake
I'll send you the source for the ResCalc whe I get it to a point where I think it's done
what did you think of the one you just got - so far so good right?
your pal,
Stinky -
Beta9 was good yes, although with 0.8.7 in the same dir, the Res manager had double each res, but when you remove the old one it goes back to norm.
Check you email now (I hope it got there...) -
Running Alpha9 and 0.8.7 in the same dir *should't* matter - they share no external files except find.sys and dmv.exe
can you explain exactly whta you meant by double each res?
your pal,
Stinky -
Well in the Res manager, in the pulldown list (both of them), 2x 288 etc... but now on second run it doesnt happen. Strange. Also the first run didn't shut down properly, yet now it does. Oh well, never mind....
