    Hi,
For some strange reason, beginning this week, my avi to dvd encoding programs just started failing on me.
I've been using The FilmMachine with CCE SP 2.67 with no problems until now.
Every time i go to encode something as usual, I wake up the next morning and find its frozen between 40 - 60% on the first pass and not only that, azureus has stopped working and i cant even open the task manager! so the only way to fix this is restart the comp.
So i figured I'd try using TFM with Canopus ProCoder, same problem.
I then go to AVI2DVD using CCE, same problem
I then try AVI2DVD again using one of the encoders that comes with it, same problem.
I then tried Ulead DVD Factory, same problem
I tried it with several different avi files also to see if one was corrupted but I still get the same problem
Its really been quite distressing for me and was wondering if anyone could help me fix this bizzare problem.
    Thanks a lot,
    Grimm2005

First thing I would suspect would be the CPU overheating. Check that. You can pull the side cover off the computer and direct a desk fan in there and see if it runs longer before failing.

If that's not it then failing RAM memory is a possibility. Encoding is very CPU and memory intensive. It doesn't need that much memory, but is very intolerant of memory errors. If you have more that one stick, pull one and try one at a time or borrow or substitute them.

Those are the most likely hardware possibilities.

For software, it could be a virus or trojan. Do a full scan of your system. Trend Micro has a good online scan. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

You could also try a system restore to a time before the problems.

There are many more possibilities; Bad power supply, bad hard drive, corrupted programs, programs running in the background, etc.... The list goes on. You just have to troubleshoot and try one thing at a time. If you can eliminate either hardware or software, it gets easier.

Or possibly one of the drives might have filled up. Tmp files need space.
