Since you do not state what drive you already have, and my crystal ball does not seem to be working today or any day for that matter, there no way to really tell now is there?

Yes, you do need a DL DVD R/W drive.

Nope. All you need is a sharpie marker to write on a DVD9. If you want to burn information onto a disc than you'll need a drive capable of that. Since your profile doesn't list any drive I can only assume your machine does not have any optical drives. My suggestion is to buy a .79 cents sharpie and start writing on DVD9's today.

Well,,,, Maybe my Crystal Ball statement was a bit rude,,, but think about how you worded your question. No one reading your ?? has any clue how they should answer it. The second repply to it is an good example. Yes, you need to install a DVD R/W drive. Any moder drive this day will also be a dual layer capable unit. For best results stick to Verbatin DL Media and is you are backing up DVD movies use DvdDecrypter to rip to an ISO and the same program to subsequently burn it back to your DL media. Should be a 1:1 copy and look as good as the original. If you are attempting to creat movies shot by you to DL then you need a good authoring program that will place the layer break in the correct position so you do not have problems with your player later

  6. For DL you need a DL writer, sure, but if you write +DL, you need a +DL writer.....

Btw, DL doesn't play in all dvd players.

  7. Your Sony 530a is a single layer burner only.
