  1. Hi. I'm buying a Dual Layer DVD burner and , at present, I only have a CD burner.

I was wondering a couple of things:

    1) I have read that Nero, since v.6.0, supports the burning of Dual Layer DVD. At present, when I use Nero, I don't see any DVD type , in the 'wizard'. i see CD-ROM (ISO), Audio CD, (S)VCD, CD Extra and all this stuff. Why don't I see any DVD type? It's because I selected a burner without DVD buener capability? Will I have to re-install Nero, for it to recognize the DVD burner and give other options? I'm asking this because I see the same even if I choose the 'image recorder', so the options doesn't seem do depend on the selected burner.

    2) I've seen that DVD Decrypter creates also a .MDS file, which is needed to burn a dual layer DVD with it. What does this mean? If I have an .ISO (or two folders on my HD extracted from a DVD: audio_ts [empty] and video_ts [full of files] folders ) will I be able to create successfully a dual layer with Nero, and how?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi there,

    1. In nero there should be a pull down menu that will allow you to choose between CD or DVD templates. If you can't see it, its probably disabled until you have DVD writing capacity.

    2. As you rightly pointed out, DVD Decrypter generates a .MDS file. Simply select this file in DVD Decrypter (Mode >> Iso >> Write) or in ImgBurn rather than the .ISO file generated. This will ensure that your layer break is at the same point.

    Hope that helps

  3. But what will we do, now that DVD decrypter is no more updated? The other rippers doesn't create a MDS file. They place the files in an audio_td an a video_td firectory on the HD or simply make an ISO (and the DVD decrypter 'create MDS' command cannot be used successfully, for images > 4.7 GB).

You can alter/specify the layer break location (someone more knowledge able will be able to tell you how or try a search -- Think you use PgcEdit) alternatively run AnyDVD in the background when using DVD Dectryptor. That said, DVD Decryptor still rips a very high percentage of DVDs.

You can use DVD Decrypter with AnyDVD, or with PGCEdit and the PSL2 plugin. Either of these methods woll beat Arccos protection and allow you to continue using the best ripper yet written.
