Is it possible to lower the audio on DVD's? I have a few home made dvd's with a loud volume that I wanted to lower without sacrificing the quality.

usually we get the opposite - how do I make the dialogue louder.

Demux the audio, use your audio editor to adjust the audio.

    Remux the audio

How difficult this is depends on a few things

    1. What format is the audio currently ?
    2. Does the disk have menus, and if so, do you want to keep them ?

It's 256kbps ac-3 with a basic thumbnail menu. Don't care for the menu, just want to lower the volume.

Use PX3 AC3 to WAV to convert your audio, then as Guns1inger said use any audio editor (eg Audacity) to lower the volume.

(Just remember when using PX3, to type the ".wav" extension after your output filename!)

I would use ffmpegGUI to reconvert back to ac3.
