My Pioneer 107D burns all 4X DVD -R tried at 8X but burns all 8X DVD +R tried only at 4X max using v1.05_RPC-1 firmware burning with Nero 6.6.0.18 version. Are there any firmware versions that will improve +R burn speeds to at least speed that media is rated such as DVR-107D v1.16 - Full firmware discussed at http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=27115&sid=54357cf8c6d1fc80007853bee9f1c1b5? Are there any other advantages or disadvantages to the DVR-107D v1.16 - Full firmware if it will resolve the +R burn speed issue? I've tried Verbatim 8X +R and Ritek G05 +R discs both of which burn 4X max on Pioneer 107D, but both burn at 8X on NEC 3520A. Is there a way to return to original firmware and then upgrade to latest official Pioneer firmware, and would that solution possibly resolve the DVD +R burn speed problem? Currently I get message that latest official Pioneer firmware isn't compatible with the device when that update is tried which I presume is due to the current hacked v1.05_RPC-1 firmware. I guess I should use -R discs only which is a big negative for Pioneer burners if there is no solution to the +R burn speed problem. All advice and suggestions will be appreciated.

I would suggest going here and reading up some:

The current version of DVRFlash will accomplish the flash back to oem firmware if you follow directions correctly. Links and tutorial can be found at the link above.
You mention 1.16 firmware but there are 4 Pioneer releases for the 107D that are newer (1.18, 1.20, 1.21 and 1.22). Based on the age of that burner - I would just use the most current 1.22 release if media compatibility was the issue. Good luck!

The 1.16 firmware I mentioned is latest version of hacked firmware I've found and not official Pioneer firmware. Do you or anyone else know whether this 1.16 version would resolve my problem, and does the DVRFlash you mention work on hacked firmware like my 1.05 version to return to original Pioneer firmware? The info on the DVRFlash I found is for MAC and states it works if you have the kernel for the OEM software. Is there a version for Windows, is OEM software kernel required for Windows, and where is kernel available if it's required for Windows?

Look here: http://gradius.rpc1.org/ appears to be patched 1.18 and 1.20 - the 1.18 appears to address your issue.
PC version of dvrflash here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=142963 (Look at the bottom of the first post for download link)
Please read instructions carefully and study tutorials. We all know the dangers of mis-guided firmware flashes. -
The only version I see at Pioneer site is 1.22 firmware which makes it doubtful I could get firmware with the kernel unless someone knows of another source. Perhaps I should try the 1.16 version to see if that resolves the problem since I should be able to return to my current version if DVRFlash will do what's claimed, i.e. go back from hacked to hacked.

gradius 1.18 comes with all you need, all you need is dvrflash.
just select 8speed,and thats it,itll burn at whats selected.
provided the media is good enough.LifeStudies 1.01 - The Angle Of The Dangle Is Indirectly Proportionate To The Heat Of The Beat,Provided The Mass Of The Ass Is Constant. -
In another post I found on the gradius 1.18 firmware it stated that some quality media may be uprated in speed. On another system the NEC 3520A burns Ritek G04 at 12X using latest oficial NEC firmware. Is this an example of what's meant by uprated in speed, and do you know if the gradius 1.18 version for DVR-107D will burn Ritek G04 at 8X?

DVRFlash 2.1 gives message "Could not open device \\.\K:" where K: is DVR-107D drive when firmware flash is attempted. What is cause or fix for this problem? I have DVRFlash 1.1 version that I used to flash current 1.05 firmware. Would DVRFlash 1.1 work, and would it be safe to flash 1.18 firmware with this version?
-
There's obviously either bugs in DVRFlash 2.1, or DVRFlash 2.1 isn't compatible with devices flashed with older firmware such as the 1.05 firmware I had. The flash to 1.16 firmware completed with no problems using DVRFlash 1.1, and I'm now burning at 8X on DVD+R 8X media which solves the problems. I decided to go with the 1.16 firmware because it was created by NIL who I think also created the 1.05 firmware I flashed initially around 2 to 3 years ago. My reasoning was that it may be more compatible and less likely to cause problems. The 1.18 firmware may have worked too, but I didn't want to take any unnecessary risk. This DVR-107D is now permanently set as far as I'm concerned unless unforeseen problems arise from this firmware.

There is a compatibility list firmware/media:
http://wwwbsc.pioneer.co.jp/product-e/ibs/device_e/dev00002r_e.html#f_107d -
Thnaks for the info on compatibility list which appears to be for official Pioneer firmware. However, it doesn't explain the errors, apparent DVRFlash 2.1 imcompatibility experienced or possible bugs in DVRFlash 2.1 version. Luckily I had the DVRFlash 1.1 version that worked for me. Everything still operating as expected with my 1.16 firmware, and thanks to all for helpful input and info.
