    Hi,

I can't understand why NTSC sometimes is listed as 23.98 fps and sometimes as 29.976 fps. Can someone please explain this to me?

    Thanks.

For almost all capturing, and DV related context, 29.97fps is the standard signal for NTSC...
23.976fps is what Film is made with (Hollywood)...

Since NTSC and Film are two different formats, the Film framerate is "Pulled down" to create 29.97fps playback. Basically making five frames out of four...Check it out.

  3. Film runs at 24 frames per second. For converting the NTSC TV the film is slowed down to 23.976 fps. When broadcast on television it is telecined to 59.94 fields per second -- the only thing SD TV knows how to display. (Read up on 3:2 pulldown or telecine processes to understand this.)

On a DVD the MPEG file can be encoded as 23.976 progressive fields per second, or as 29.97 telecined frames per second. In the former case the DVD player performs 3:2 pulldown to create 59.94 fields per second. In th e latter case the DVD player performs 2:2 pulldown to produce 59.94 fields per second.

  4. AFAIK 23.98 (or 23.976) is a little bit uncorrect. Should be 24000/1001=23,976023976023976023976023976024 :P

i guess your dick is bigger than mine since i've always used only three digits after decimal point... 24fps is incorrect as well i guess? should have been 24.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 0000000 :P
