    hey

Does anyone know how to change the bit setting (booktipe) with this drive?

BTW, the drive is also known as LG HLGWA-4162B

I've already try cd-dvd speed and dvd decrypter. None of them recognizes the drive as an LG, so they don't chang the bit-setting to dvd-rom

In the model I recently got (last year - HP DVD640c), the HP software included a utility called HP Disk Compatibility Setting.
That utility lets you change the bitsetting for DVD+RW (probably -, too) but not for the single use disks (DVD+R, -R).

If you are using DVD Decrypter, try burning one disk (+R for example) and then finalize it, eject the disk, reload it and let DVD Decrypter read the disk in File Mode [edit - oops, sorry, I should have said ISO mode].

The text analysis of that disk in the right text box of DVD Decrypter should tell you what the setting is for the written disk. Be sure to read through the entire set of statistics, data. I think you will find the disk has a final setting of DVD-ROM.

If true for you (as it is for me), then you don't have to worry about changing the bit setting anymore.

I don't have that HP software.

But your drive is a OEM BenQ. Even with BenQ aplication, is possible to change bitsetting. The problem is that my drive is an OEM LG.

I've already try with DVD Decrypter. It burns with +R bitsetting.

According to some of the HP models that I have read through their specs within their website - some already burn DVD disks and finalize them as DVD-ROM bitsetting.

Maybe not all of the models, but considering what I saw from my 604c, I didn't have to modify the bitsetting at all. It finished that way with my first dual-layer burn.

Oh, I believe there is a better tool for doing this. I will look it up and forward the info once I get home from work.

This link has a lot more info.

The utlity that may work for you is Nero CD-DVD Speed version 2.20
It should be a free download.
