I'm not sure about all the differences between US and European standalone players. Besides the different format PAL/NTSC, I believe the power plugs are different.

Oppo has really good tech support, I'm sure they would be happy to answer any questions for you.

This is taken directly from the FAQ for this Oppo player at the web site listed above:

Q: What is the highest supported DivX resoluton for OPDV971H?
A: Currently, 720 by 480 is the highest DivX resolution that the OPDV971H supports.

I expected more than 720x480 support given all the raves for this player. The I-O Data Divx player claims to support higher DivX resolutions than that.
