hi. i've extracted the audio from my movie but don't know of any decent software thats free i can use to import it and tweak it up a bit. also, imovie extracts it as a .aiff file. should i convert that to mp3 before use, and if so how? any suggestions on these two much appreciated...

Robin, could you tell us the starting point and ending point? Your original home movie is in DV? And your goal is to create a final project which is also DV?

Let's assume that iMovie did an okay job of extracting the .aiff file. To tweak it up a bit, download the freeware audio editor Audacity. It's probably the best editor you'll find for free.

Also see this short how-to by Dan Slagle from The Unofficial iMovie FAQ:

    http://www.danslagle.com/mac/iMovie/audio/1004.shtml

He mentions other audio editors you can use, and clarifies some of the steps.

Offhand, I don't know of any reason to convert to .mp3. Keep it .aiff (uncompressed) unless you have a special reason for compressing to .mp3.

If you tell us more, maybe we can advise you better. -Pianoman

thanks vmuch. lets just say i'm just starting out on playing with video, so i'm a bit lost as to what you mean by starting and ending point. you mean of the audio? i've only extracted from one clip for the time being seeing as it's pretty small, but will extract the entire film later for tweaking. yes, it's in dv, and will eventually burn to disc once completed. thanks again for the link and tip
