A 2 part AVI that I was able to run on QT 7.0.2 once I had thrown the AC3 codec into Library.

So I tried burning it with Toast 7.0.1 in the data tab, and the playback shows great quality picture but no sound. Can Toast support unknown audio tracks?

It wasn't recognised when I checked the info in QT.

Any suggestions that are user-friendly to get the audio onto the DVD as well?

Have scanned the forum but couldn't find anything relevant.

yeah, i recently just had the same incident happen. the files were .avi and when i dropped them into to Toast 7.0.2, the video burned, but the audio files didn't. i tried playing them in QT7, and no audio was there, but they played perfectly in VLC player. any suggestions also?? thanx. MB

  3. you need QT v7.0.4. QT 7.0.2 broke this... the AC3 codec is variable bit and QT broke all VBR codecs.

    get v7.0.4 of QT
    get http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22994

    should work just fine then

It would be great if the update to QuickTime 7.0.4 solves the problem to the users' satisfaction. I'm just curious if there's a different solution based on massaging the .avi to turn it into either elementary streams, or a .mov file with .aiff or .mp2 sound? If I were taking that approach, I might use tools like MPEG Streamclip, QuickTime Pro, mAC3dec, and BitViceHelper.

I believe Streamclip and mAC3dec have their own AC3 decoders which are not based on QuickTime. If you give Toast something with .aiff or .mp2 sound, the burned files might be playable on more Macs.

What video codec does this particular AVI use? (Like .mov, .avi is just a container. To know what's going on with the video, you have to know the codec.)
