  1. Well I have some downloaded files that i extracted the video from. I try to convert the AVI to MPEG2 I have used TMPGENC, CCE, and AVISYNTH. each time the video ends up being only 12 or 13 minutes instead of the 26 minutes it should be. I watched through the video and it seems to fast forward at some parts/skip. My settings are this:
    size: 720x480
    aspect ratio: 4:3
    frame rate: 23.976
    rate control:2 pass vbr
    video format: NTSC
    encode mode: 3:2 pulldown
    please help

  2. Hi-

    I'll assume the original AVI plays smoothly. When you open the original AVI in VDub(Mod) and scroll through it and advance a frame at a time, is everything OK? When you go File->File Information, is the correct length shown?

    What's the AviSynth script, if you don't mind? When you open it in VDub(Mod) and scroll through it or advance a frame at a time, does everything look OK? In File->File Information, is it showing the correct length? After you open it in CCE, set it up, and then get ready to encode, is it showing the correct length in the main screen?

    When you're done and open the M2V in VDubMod or VDub-MPEG2 (or whatever it's called) and go File->File Information, is it showing the correct length? When you advance a frame at a time, is it missing frames, or are they all there? You're applying 3:2 Pulldown in CCE? You might try running Pulldown.exe or DGPulldown yourself afterwards, instead of from within CCE.

    I can't help with TMPGEnc.

    Yes Everything is correct and the frames are all ok.

    What's the AviSynth script, if you don't mind?
    AVISource("1.avi", False)
    LanczosResize(720,480)
    AddAudio()
    ConvertToYUY2()

    After you open it in CCE, set it up, and then get ready to encode, is it showing the correct length in the main screen?
    yes

    this info might help maybe?
    i use average bitrate: 4,500
    and min bitrate:0
    and max bitrate: 9,500

    thanks for trying to help hope you may be able to help me further.

  4. A nice basic script. Nothing wrong there. I guess you're using CCE 2.50. If you have a more recent version, you no longer need the AddAudio() line. I'm just trying to find out where it goes wrong. You seem to be OK up to the encoding stage.

    You didn't say what the encoded M2V is like. If you open it in VDubMod, scroll to a place with movement, and then advance a frame at a time, does it advance smoothly, with no missing frames? I'm trying to figure out if perhaps this is a playback issue. What are you playing, the M2V or the authored DVD, and how are you playing it? What player are you using? Maybe try a different player, like MediaPlayerClassic or VLC. How are you determining that it's too short? A lot of players give an incorrect length. One way to find the true length is to make a D2V from the M2V, and then a simple AviSynth script using MPEG2Source, open it in VDubMod, and then go File->File Information. Have you authored it yet? Using which authoring app? You might try a simple Muxman author, and play it as a DVD, like with PowerDVD, to see if it plays smoothly.

    I have seen discussions about using a 0 minimum bitrate. I usually use 500 myself, and have heard that a 0 minimum can give some standalones problems. I might suggest a higher min. bitrate, like 250 or so. But I don't really think that's causing the problem

    hmmm, when i use vdubmod and scroll through the frames to the end the time is correct and the frames seem ok.
    This might be the playback issue but would that explain the fast motion during some parts when i play the video?

  6. OK, so you've established that the frames are all there, and the length is correct?

    There's a bunch of questions you haven't answered yet, but it seems to boil down to either an authoring issue or a playback issue. Maybe a pulldown issue, but I don't use the pulldown feature in CCE. I do it myself after encoding, so I don't know if that could be the problem or not.

    Could that explain the fast motion sometimes? Yes, perhaps the video is trying to resynch with the audio.

    What format is the audio ?

    I use CCE 2.70.x and the pulldown has never caused me any problems.

  9. OK, maybe you're using a lousy player. But since you haven't answered any of the other questions and evidently haven't tried any other players, I give up. Getting information out of you is like pulling teeth. Good luck.

    Yeah. Put the latest G-Spot on it and post a screen shot. Otherwise there is nothing else we can do for you. Do you go to a doctor and make him guess what's wrong with you ?
